Boeing F-15EX Eagle II - Sharpening the Bald Eagle's Talons

are they?
they seem to have similar diameter
with F135 actually being smaller diameter (but slightly longer), so with some work they could be installed (I doubt it but would be funny)

afaik, yes. Even if they would indeed fit, it would require a massive and real expensive overhaul of the airframe for a minimal upgrade imo.
The F-15EX’s role is to be a missile carrier and go high and fast, but at a reasonable cost

I know, but imagine how funny it would be with that high a thrust to weight

It would just be a missile in itself lmao. Like the F-15E on the dev server when it was first realest, hell, even better. It would just maintain Mach 3 with 16 AMRAAMs loaded on

Here’s the report.

I think Radar AN/APG-82v(X), GaN by Raytheon.

Engine maybe further improved F110, hopefully better thrust.

Idk about mission computer, I thought it was already very new with ADCP II unless that’s a different computer type

You’re probably right about the radar and engines. What I saw about the mission computer is it will take better advantage of the new radar and EPAWSS.

As far as we know. The F-15EX will be around 35,500 lb compared to the 33,500 lb of the F-15E. Hope fully, The lot 12s will be announced with the F110-GE-132s, fielding 3500 lbf of thrust each over the current engines, enough to make up for the gained weight and even more.
The Radar should will be the AN/APG-82(V)1, with a tad bit more range, main upgrade is it being an AESA radar. The (V)X should bring even more range.
The EX will have at minimum 12 AAMs if not 16 even.
Maybe the lot 12s will have the MAWS too, but the first F-15EX flew with MAWS installed anyways so it qualifies.
360 countermeasures and 360 degrees RWR coverage.
SEAD capabilities
ASW capabilities
Integrated IRST in the Sniper pod
Maybe even better maneuverability because of the increased thrust on lots 12+ and FBW
Have i missed anything?

is there a source for this

EPAWSS sale sheet from BAE specifies +50% more countermeasures. Same as the F-15I basically. And we have photos of the additional dispensers.
The AN/ALE-45 can use various types of countermeasures, of all sizes for that matter, but gaijin only gives us what they want.
In theory, we should have between 270 and 360 countermeasures on the F-15EX, IF we see that the F-15EX cannot use BOL, which is already in use or used by the F-15A/C/D/Es

With the EX gaining a more significant role, I wonder if it will eventually carry the AIM-424. The F22 may not be able to carry it and the F35 can only carry two internally.

maybe

because despite it being anounced by the navy, it does seem to fit with the goal of the USAF LREW program, so might have been a result of programs merging/collaborative development

or both AF and Navy might switch to whichever one is more successful

oooooh okay so the same could be said for f15e RMP that are equipped with EPAWSS

everytime I come back to this post I get an unhealthy obsession with it

Indeed

The AIM-424 could be part of the LREW program. I’m wondering if there will also be a missile that can’t fit inside the bays of an F35.

I don’t think so, USAF said they were closely following the AIM-424’s development which implies they aren’t directly part of it

Its interesting the Air Force is lagging behind the Navy in new missiles. Both branches have the AIM-260 but the Navy has the AIM-174, the AIM-424 and an F-18 was just seen flying with the new Blackbeard hypersonic missile.

Limiting the F-15EX to the AIM-260 feels like a wasted opportunity.

Its kinda odd how different their doctrines and implementation of such weapons is

The Air Force is developing the B-21, F-47 and Sentinel ICBM, so maybe they don’t have the extra R&D budget for new missiles. They also have a serious shortage in fighter aircraft to deal with.
