There very well could be an external loading mechanism, but it was stated by the devs much earlier that the top most belts were external regardless.

Okay, you need to cut the BS. Obviously there is no roof directly cutting the linkage of the ammo. It’s obviously structured around the feeding mechanism.

Well clearly the devs know something if they stated they were external and these 2 images are quite enough to come to that conclusion, but regardless if you think there might be something. That doesn’t mean your take or my take leads us anywhere but back to square 1.

Or, get this, the devs dont know shit considering the BMPT didnt have the separated belt in its first iteration and they changed the behaviour twice since then just so they can sell more.
Id maybe believe that the devs have more knowledge if the thing was consistent from the beginning but they changed it twice without explanation or reason.

Well make your mind up. You either have a continuous belt/link of rounds that goes from the ammunition storage (in the hull) to the guns (above the hull) or you don’t.

You either have a system that feeds the guns without needing to reload or you don’t.

If you want the advantages of that you have to account for the obvious disadvantage of needing an uninterrupted and relatively smooth/straight path for the rounds to travel.

OTHERWISE - you may as well be arguing precisely for the daft bluetooth ammunition feed system with all the mockery and ridicule that will entail.

They probably very well did not pay it much attention at the time in it’s 1st iteration, but in doing so they obviously took note of something with the external belts.

If not, then they are connected and as such chain detonation can occur.

What? You know how many weapons have twisty or bendy links and function just fine? The way the ammo is set virtually means nothing in this instance.

Now this is just nitpicking because cocnsidering how “complicated” it would be to fully reload would not change how it would be played in-game.

Russian AFV designers obviously discovered Magic. Real world physics is so last century… and thus unworthy of the ultra-realistic paragon of physics simulation that is War Thunder.

The more bends and turns you make any belt or link of ammunition navigate - the more potential for jams and feed issues. We’re talking about 30mm cannon rounds - not BB pellets.

Wrong one dude, that’d be Law of Thermodynamics. Since I already said that belts of such a low caliber don’t have enough force to chain detonate in a single linkage. Even when T-72s cook off, not every round in their ammo stowage goes off, despite being a much larger caliber.

Few days ago there was this one popular vid from certain place and conflict that cannot be named where some genius decided to install 12.7 YAK-B from hind on a truck to act as AA platform of sorts, only the dude forgot to mount the barrels in line with the mount.

Insteqd, he mounted them ever so slightly to the right.

He pressed the trigger and nearly mowed down soldier standing behind him as the whole thing spun like beyblade.

And that was 12.7mm rounds, fired normally through barrel, with evenly spread burn of the propelant.

And you are now looking me in the eye and saying that in case 30mm shell gets hit it doesnt have enough energy to set off another shell directly next to it?

If you know anything about the history of those two guns and the engineering challenges of their operation (PARTICULARY feed issues) - you’d probably not have used those examples…

Still, I refer you to STANAG 4396. Among various things it covers the sympathetic detonation of munitions. It is enough of a danger that modern rounds have to be tested for their tendencies to start chain reactions.

This gives you some research data on how adjacent links of 20mm+ ammunition can detonate rounds in close proximity to it.
