  • Basic Description :
    • The BMP-1TS is a modernized variant of the Soviet BMP-1 sporting the Spys-Syntez Combat Module. Development of the Spys-Syntez combat module began in the late 2010’s between Techimpex and the Zhytomyr Armored Plant on a new standard combat module for Ukrainian combat vehicles. This lead to the creation of the Spys-Syntez Combat module. The Spys-Syntez module features a one-man turret sporting STANAG 4569 Level 3 armor protection. Within the turret resides the gunner operating the Syntez Fire Control System (FCS) which allows the gunner access to an integrated laser rangefinder, 3rd-generation thermal imagers, upgraded stabilizer, and two-channel televisions with wide and narrow view, through the Kazhan-3K15 Optical-electronic module. The main armament is the ZTM-1 30mm Autocannon that is equipped with 300 ready to fire rounds. The main gun is stabilized through the Syntez FCS. Alongside the main gun, the Combat Module features a KT-7.62mm coaxial machine gun, and 2x Barrier-212 anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) launchers which can fire two RK-2S ATGM’s (with two extra in the hull) that can be fired on the move, and lastly the KBA-117 30mm Grenade Launcher. For countermeasures, the turret is equipped with 6x 81mm 902V ‘Khmara’ Smoke Grenade Launchers. This combat module is integrated into a standard BMP-1 chassis, featuring the same powertrain, amphibious capabilities, and armor layout as its predecessor. One thing to note is that the BMP-1TS can be equipped with Nozh/Contact-1 explosive reactive armor (ERA) mounts on the side of the hull above the waterline to provide additional protection, however it is unlikely equipped in any units. The Luna IR searchlight has been removed on the BMP-1TS. In 2021, the Ukrainian Army accepted a small number of the BMP-1TS into service with some seeing active combat in Eastern Ukraine. As of August 2022, at least one was lost to combat.
    • In terms of ammunition, the ZTM-1 (2A72) and ZTM-2 (2A42) utilize the 30x165 cartridge which allows both cannons to use the same ammunition. The Precision Mechanic Plant in Western Ukraine launched serial-production of Soviet 30x165 ammunition including the 3UBR8 Armor Piercing Discarding Sabot round with Tracer (APDS-T) round, 3UBR6 Armor Piercing round with Tracer (AP-T) round, 3UOR6 High-Explosive Incendiary Fragmentation round with Tracer (F-T) and the 3UOF8 High Explosive Incendiary round (HEF-I).

I wasn’t aware the fire control allowed the ATGM to be fired on the move. That’s quite a development that can impact BR. It puts it in a similar situation as the BMP-2M however, it lacks the APFSDS-T rounds as well as has only two vice four missiles. Things to note however, is the missiles does have two variants, the RK-2S which is a tandem HEAT warhead with 800mm+ of RHA behind ERA and the RK-2OF which is a HE missile for lightly armored targets. Probably 9.3 to 9.7 for Ground Realistic BR.
