Description: The BF109 G2 was a German fighter of the 222, and it was the second variant of the G series. It’s a story in the Regia Aereonautica (Italian Royal Air Force). It started back in 1943, when, for the long amount of time requested to put in service the Serie 5 Fighter, Italy ordered to Germany 115 BF109 in different versions as a stop gap. Five of them were G2. The aircraft were sent to Sicily, where they were mainly used for training. The story about those aircraft and what resulted in their fate is pretty much unknown; there is documentation only about one of them, G2/R6 (the one in the first picture), the W. Nr. 10825. The aircraft entered service on May 23, 1943, and was used only for training. The aircraft was captured by the Allies in good conscience two months later, after the landing in Sicily and the invasion of Italy. The other aircraft have no documentation, and their fate is unknown. Also, the fate of the previous cited and documented unit is still unknown; it’s not specific what the allies did with that aircraft. Talking about the aircraft itself, the main differences between the F and the G variants were the installation of the DB605A engine and a different propeller (there were other small changes to the cockpit glass and to the air intakes). The G2/R6 variant had the ability to carry 2 extra 20 mm pods under the wings.

Why it should be in the game: Those aircraft alongside the others BF109 Variants could give to Italy very solide options for premiums and events, and also they could replace the Hungarian G2 as a premium.
