only thing i can think of is the ROMOR ERA pack, but I don’t know (I probably should considering I own the DS) if it carries it.
Off the top of my head the Challenger 1s never received any armour upgrades apart from ROMOR kits.
It not having L26 is a Gaijin moment because every Challenger in front line service in Op Desert Storm had L26 specifically to deal with T-72s that it was expected L23 would be unable to deal with.
I specifically asked during the one stream and the answer I got was something like “Challenger 1 mark 3 with more armour.” but maybe I don’t remember clearly. I do know that’s the impression I had of it and the disappointment is real.
I think a regular issue with “western” ERA is that its not always “pure” ERA. like the soviet stuff is. But rather a composite and at the moment, a lot of that isnt modeled by Gaijin, they just look at the thickness and assume protection levels based upon that:
some of the Challenger 1s got upgraded external armour and others did not for Desert Storm and Gaijin being Gaijin, chose not model that external armour to maintain a chosen BR
So perhaps they left the choice to add additional armour in the future (and thus the comment) but then decided against it after the fact.
Hmm. I have also noticed latest US kinetic rounds are not present in the game: M829A3 (2003) and M829A4 (2014). Supposedly they were designed to overwhelm Russian heavy ERA in mind.
And that. Even L27A1 on the Challenger 2s is designed to counter Soviet ERA. But the “ERA Perforation” is simply not modeled and they look only at the size of the shell and note the design or composition. I think L27A1 should be able to reliably pen the ERA on something like the T-80BVM, but in game it can barely scratch it
So it seems ERA in War Thunder is not modeled correctly versus kinetic rounds? Game engine cannot calculate advanced ERA defeating mechanic which relatively new Western APFSDS rounds posses. In that case Contact-5 and Relict are almost invulnerable.
ERA itself isn’t really modelled properly in just about any case whatsoever. Heavy ERA like Kontakt-5 should reduce penetration by some proportion which depends on the angle of impact and also the type of shell hitting it. The anti-ERA designs with segments or tips to try and reduce this effect are not modelled either.
Probably. The entire game is designed for WW2 (maybe korean war/veitnam war) era engagements, but theyve added modern 4th gens without aircraft and modern tanks to the game, with all their modern tech and not updated or changed anything.
