Purely from a gameplay standpoint the current implementation (seeker shutoff + FOV gating) is probably the best. Again, it depends on what Gaijin decides to pursue. Realism for the sake of realism or make some choices for the sake of gameplay

It depends on your playstyle.
If you prefer getting into close range knifefights, then IRIS-T is better for you.
I personally prefer sitting more defensively, and playing BVR. In that ASRAAMs range and speed is king.
A Typhoon with IRIS-T vs a Typhoon with ASRAAM is all about ranges.
At 15-30km, the ASRAAM-Phoon is firing off missiles and there isnt much the IRIS-Typhoon can do about it.
But if both start within 5-10km, then the ASRAAM would hit first, but IRIS-T can be fired too.
If the fights starts after a merge, then IRIS-T wins everytime

Sure its definitely a playstyle question. My point was more that with the current implementation of modern IR seekers the ASRAAM while still obviously good doesnt really fix a huge problem for the EFT while the IRIS T even with its current implementation immediately fixes the Aim9s problems.

In a close range dogfight, sure. I guess. ASRAAM shouldnt be a slob, but due to its sheer speed, isnt going to be used in HOBS within 3-5km. If you get a clean shot, the target is dying though.
But in an ambush, it takes everything good about the 9Ms and sticks them on a Mach 5 missiles with a waaaaaay better seeker (even its just IRCCM+)
Isnt that the same with Spice-250s and AGM-88Es though?
But the point doesnt really change much for OP if the question is which nation to grind for the Typhoon, because the EK would only be in one nation, and for all we know, Gaijin will just convert their current E-Phoon into the EK.

But even just shut-off with a Mach 5 missiles… Then you arent evading that providing the seeker shuts off correctly
