Their warhead is very small, so they will struggle to kill vehicles if they don’t eliminate the entire crew or cause an ammo rack. CIRIT missiles on T129 are a good example of their performance and another important aspect is their limited steering compared to other ATGMs, they will struggle to follow agile vehicles and will lose track if they’re not launched in ideal conditions. Also the limited penetration (should be similar to 290mm like their unguided counterparts) will struggle to defeat the armor of most MBTs at top tier and you will need to perform salvo shots of several APKWS missiles to make them penetrate and aim for weak spots/thin armor places.
wait can it mount stingers? actually it cant but no one said it cant be fired out the door lol
I mean yeah, but you have enough that you could just spam off 3-4 and that would probably kill a light vehicle/AA
it would be even more insane if they added them with the 19 rocket drums instead of artificially limiting them to the 7 ones
Technically speaking, IRL it would depend on whether the backblast is manageable within the cabin. I’m not sure if Stingers have soft launch.
Then again, if we allow the aircrew to carry weapons then it could use all sorts of man-portable missiles like Spike and Javelin.
Perfect Spot for it in the tech tree right between 9.7- 10.0
Hopefully we get door gunners to make it even more capable
I’d be very fine with this being tucked away under the AH-1Z, br set at 9.7-10.0 and not having ATGMS. Give it CCIP for the hydras and the flight performance alone will make it very usable, even without atgms. +1 hope we get this
I just got done watching one of your vids then I see you in the forums lmao
Hey that’s awesome xD hope the videos are good man
JF-17 now has Snake rockets. which are litterally just LG M247 hyrdas/AGR-20Cs so idk why the US doesnt have them yet on all their helis.
AGR-20A/B need to have their spawn cost lowered to normal rocket costs cuz they are terrible/useless.
AGR-20C needs to get added to all vehicles and have normal Missile cost
and AGR-20E needs to be added with normal AAM cost.
the AGR-20E is a M229 17 Lbs HE warhead, with a proxi fuze and the newer IR fire and forget guidance kit. its the exact same as setup as the AGR-20D except the D is Laser guided. the E is IR guided.
One of the things that bothers me about the APKWS we have in-game is the lower pen values. They’re just regular hydra 70s with guidance kits so the pen values should be the same. Theres also more warhead options available but we only get the 2 worst ones for whatever reason.
Or just like the remote-controled minigun in UH-1B/C, but manned
Its not that it has lower pen.
its that we have the 2 objectively WORST versions of the rocket for no reason other than ruissian bias/devs hate america.
The velocity is wrong though, were missing like 100m/s on each rocket cuz they are like 2-3kg heavier than they actually should be.
APWKS come in currently 5 variants with a 6th and 7th on the way.
AGR-20A is a M151 10lbs HE warhead which is NOT suited for Anti armor work. it is typically fitted with a Proxi fuze for anti-helo/anti drone, or anti infantry airburst over the ground work. but it can also be fit with delay fuze or contact/impact fuzes for taking out cars and other soft targets like radars, supply, fuel trucks etc… (we dont have the Flak fuze cuz Gaijin hates us) Though this version is falling out of favor, thanks to the D and E down below. And we dont have infantry targets in the game so out of all the versions to add, why did they even bother giving us this one?
AGR-20B is a M282 SAPHE rocket with a delay fuze, it has more pen for soft and low armored targets, things like buildings, Boghammer style boats, AA emplacements, soft IFVs etc etc.
AGR-20C (the one we REALLY need) is the LG version of the M247 Hydra Anti armor/DP rocket. this is the one that has the 300mm pen like other hydras and its actually already in the game on the JF-17, but America doesnt have it cuz bias/the devs hate america.
AGR-20D is a M229 17lbs HE rocket warhead fit with a proxi fuze, Basically a M151 but longer with 70% more explosive and mass. Like all previous versions this rocket is still laser guided, but due to the added weight it was given a more powerful MK66-Mod4 rocket motor with added thrust and a longer motor to help offset the added weight and maintain a useable rocket velocity/ballistic coefficient. This one is used against helicopters, slow aircraft, cruise missiles, drones or against ground targets where you need a bunch of HE.
AGR-20E Literally the same as the D above it, with 1 major exception.
Instead of the SALH/LG seeker, this one has the new IR-FAF guidance kit. it is used for air to air, and anti drone work exclusively and is not suited for air to ground use. This is a newer version of the APKWS 2 Rocket (IOC 2019 or 2021, i dont remember which). is widely used in all 3 major branches in both ground and air platforms for a cheap, multishot way of dealing with air targets. and its larger 17lbs warthead makes the D and E versions more suited for taking out air targets than the older A version.
Infact their are several AA platforms on the ground that Rely on this rocket, and we should have them ingame but we dont have those either.
6th variant, is yet another new seeker to simplify production lines. it is a Dual IR and LG seeker that just got IOC earlier this year, and can be applied to any of the above but costs about 1.6x the previous versions, but thats not bad for a 2 in 1 feature imo. IDK if they will call this the APKWS 3, or Keep the AGR-20 designation. and just add another series of letters. i have no clue.
7th is an alternate MMW (millimeter wave radar) seeker kit that has just been greenlit/approved for development this year, and will likely reach testing in a year or 2, and ioc a year or 2 after that. so maybe by 2029. This version will give Fire and forget as well as all weather/degraded visual condition capabilities to the APKWS/Hydra system. However it is expected to cost 3-4x what a single APKWS guidance kit currently costs. still far cheaper than a modern JAGM though.
the more you know rainbows meme
What about AGR-20F
The variants you mentioned give us even more of a reason to add the Venom.
