BMP-3 and Type 89 are equals and both the same BR currently.
That means if one is over-performing both are.
Superior IFVs to both are at 9.3 and 9.7.
Going out of topic a bit, talking about the Type 89, which I never understood your point. While one is better (for the average player) at distances at support position and the other is better at close distances how are they similar to each other? Not talking about battle rating which both fairly deserves battle rating 9.0.
Both have APDS, but the Type 89’s APDS does pen significantly more due to being fired out of a 35mm instead of a 30mm.
Of course I’ve used artillery as city brawlers over 100 times by now, and 100mm HE might be okay, but I’m not going to seriously consider it when even 155mm has a decently strict skill requirement.
It’s possible, but when speaking in terms of vehicle capabilities it’s not wise to talk about exceptional situations and instead focus on the most likely.
Troll topic. Anyway, BMP3s biggest claim to fame is being the backup vehicle to the Object279.
BMP3 goes well because the players using it are typically playing 9.0 for a specific reason (279).
Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy BMP3, but if it wasn’t for 279, I’d use BMD4, BMD4M and then Object775 before it at 9.3.
In my opinion the Type 89 will always be in some kind of advantage compared to the BMP-3 solely due to the 35 mm APDS performance, firerate is about the same but the penetration power is immense.
While I say BMP-3 should be used at distance as support, Type 89 works fine in every distance. My only point of concern that keeps both tied into the same battle rating is the performance of the Type 79 and Type 79 ASM anti-tank guided missiles lacking in penetration and velocity,
Which to counterweight 9M117 and 9M117M1 has the reload time as drawback deferring BMP-3 from BMD-4 for example. The 100 mm 3OF70 HE is by far my most favorite feature on the BMP-3 being a fun tool to deal with targets at most distances depending on situation (if stationary or not).
However the big difference is the survivability: Type 89 can hold much more damage compared to the BMP-3 primarly due to the design and the killing feature on most late Soviet vehicles that is the death by fuel explosion, when it should work as a protection works like a trap.
Not trying to be selfish but my stats on BMP-3 and Type 89 says which is better and the Type 89 pack-a-punch in close range maps. The 35 mm autocannon ready-rack reload rate is superior to higher calibers and the penetration values is decent to work around with without the use of the missiles.
