Since rank doesn’t affect gameplay (apart from battle pass tasks) that is probably for progression/research reasons. Or simply an oversight.

You are both right and wrong at the same time.
Aim-9Gs are actually perfectly reasonable, as all the Phantoms at this BR have the same (rear-aspect Aim-9), sure they are a little lack luster but that is a compression issue.
I personally dont like the radar but again, its perfectly reasonable for the BR, same for the RWR (also on that note RWRs are not affected by Ground clutter and that is precisely what the PD mode is for on the radar)
But the Phantom FGR2, FG1 and F4J(UK) all do ahve a major balance issue, that is the Skyflash DFs, these are largely an equivalent to the Aim-7E-2 found on the F-4E and not an equivalent to the Aim-7F found on the Phantoms at the same BR and leaves the British Phantoms way more under-gunned than the 9Gs do. These could be replaced by Skyflash SuperTEMPs (reported and accepted, but not implemented) but they wont for some reason
As for its BR. no. in its current state it wouldnt be any lower than 11.7 for various reasons, just compare to something like the Hawk 200 RDA

Video claims Using a BR 3.7 in rank 2 and a 3.7 in rank 3 = uptiers every game.
German and Italian F-84F are rank VI and get no airspawn.
The US F-84F is at rank V and gets an airspawn.
They are all identical and share the same BR.

I’d bring the F-5 family, where we have (in Sim):
- at 10.7: F-5A/C’s with no radar and rear-aspect IR-AAM’s
- at 11.0: F-5A (G) with no radar and all-aspect IR-AAM’s
- at 11.3: F-5E’s with bad radar with no IFF and rear-aspect IR-AAM’s
- at 11.3: F-5E with PD radar (…it never had IRL) with IFF and rear-aspect IR-AAM’s (…that were IRL replaced by all-aspect missiles in that variant)
- at 11.7: F-5E with with bad radar with no IFF and all-aspect IR-AAM’s and good HUD plus HMD
- at 11.7: F-5E with with bad radar with no IFF and twice the number of all-aspect IR-AAM’s and good HUD but no HMD

IT/JP/DK M24 are rank 3, but US is rank 2
SWE T34 and Pz4 are rank 3, but they’re rank 2 in their original trees
F-84F could be added to that as well. Rank 6 in France & Germany, so no airspawn, but for the US its rank V, so gets airspawn

One could also mention later SPAA in general.
E.g. the British with their abysmally poor Stormer HVM at 10.3, and the Rapier at 9.7 which is vastly superior.
Or - another classic in such discussions - the Italian OTOMATIC at 11.3: Very powerful and fun, but outclassed in range by everything down to everything 1-1.5 BR’s lower…
I just checked again:
It is rank VI for Germany, Italy, France (TT & prem), Israel
So it is in the game for five nations and only one gets it with an airspawn, despite them all getting the same match making.

Having used both, I think it depends on the threat/context rather than one being superior than the other. Rapier I have terrible time with the target not dying with the first or even second missile and I waste stupid amounts of time hitting the same target over and over again
Stormer HVM is way harder to use, but generally the target does die in the first hit. it is Especially superior vs Helis
I haven’t researched the subject but I remain skeptical. It’s more likely that there is simply more players of +1BR in [big nation that said plane usually gets paired against]. But I’m gonna make no claims here.

Really? I didn’t like it that much, I like the cannon P-51 much better and I don’t think the C-10 should be the same br as the P-51D-5
P-51D-5 at 4.0 whilst P-51C-10 (literally a better plane) is at 3.7.
A-7D and A-7E which get rear aspect missiles at the same BR (10.3) as A-10A which gets Aim-9Ls.
F-84F at the same BR as Sabres
The entire Spitfire and Yak line in general being insanely undertiered . . .
MD452 IIC is somehow higher than the Mig15 and f86.
Mystere IVA is somehow equivalent to the 15bis and the F2 (yes it’s 8.7 but 8.7 is basically 9.0 atp)

P-51C is awesome. I just cant justify flying it when I want battlepass rewards. Need rank 3 plane for it.

the F-5 also has an AB while the 17AS is a copy paste TT version with the R3S so stranger that those two vehicles share a br too
