This stuck out to me, so I went and looked it up, the 2K is just a better AMX-40. Better round, better gun handling, more usable 20mm, better armor/survivabilitiy, similar mobility.
The only advantages the AMX-40 has are gen 1 thermals and an ESS system, letting you use the goofy one way smokescreen trick against inexperienced players.
Like you face t80 ud with 6.5s reload rate and you cannot even reload the gun before it when you have no armour and a much worse round… dm 63 105 =/= 3bm42 125
For example the TAM 2C has a worse reload than any tank at its br with full crew… you have to spend 800k sl just to get the same reload at a t72… I think keep it at the br but give it 5s reload aced
especially with all of the autoloaded 5s reload 105 tanks that we have at the br like boxer, cv90105 etc… (I know cv90105 is 10.0 but that only proves the point)
Gen 1 thermals are not equivalent to the sizable improvements the 2K has in almost every other respect. Gun handling most critically, the 2K has a better base turret traverse than the AMX-40’s spaded and aced one.
That’s true, barrel launched missiles is extremely good at short distances with good accuracy. but with 1200 mm pen u can basically hit pretty anywhere on the hull u want, for 600 u gotta aim. Having ability to launch them continuously is also a plus
Only a tiny strip in the toe plate that’s so weak it can’t even block the weakest APFSDS round that it can see (3BM25 goes right through at over a kilometer). Even 105mm HEAT can get through easily. Everywhere else it’s spaced armor, just like the 2K.
The 2K also has a 20mm, but in a far more usable form. You can peak over ridgelines to track/barrel/pen lightly armored things while staying safe, and it’s got far better gun handling (77/48 degrees per second horizontal/vertical, versus 21/6).
Gen 1 thermals are an overrated advantage, especially given how uncommon sniping maps are nowadays compared to brawling ones.
It’s occasionally useful to have, but not an omnipresent advantage like gun handling or survivability.
The 2K has very slightly better mobility. 30 hp/t for the 2K, 29.7 for the AMX-40, with a 2 kph top speed advantage for the 2K. It’s vestigial, but even the AMX-40’s best feature is eclipsed by the 2K.
OP, the fact you said Kurnass 2000 is OP in ground is a little funny don’t you think?
You also mentioned that some things are overpowered in sqb… PLEASE don’t tell me you play sqb with those stats lmfaoooooooo
(Holy flag speedrun haha, couldn’t expect anything less)
They have effectively equal protection, with the 2K having a slight edge since it’s turret ring can’t be exploited by lower caliber autocannons as easily.
You also completely ignoring the biggest flaw of the AMX-40 (Outside the poor survivability), and that’s the gun handling. For reference, it’s very nearly identical to a first generation MBT, the M48A1, while the 2K shares the Leopard 2’s fantastic gun handling. Outside of heavily armored MBTs like the Soviets and Challengers, nothing at this BR has anywhere near that slow of a turret traverse.
Put the two at the same BR, and there would be no reason to play the AMX-40.
