“The Few” Decal, Two Fighters and Discounts for Battle of Britain Day! - #3 by FlyingOstridge
I recommend considering to ask this question in the official thread.
From my perspective you should ask why the US flag is not shown in the center as their contribution was imho actually decisive in this fight.
Why?
Imho the BoB draw (which was effectively an operational victory for the Empire) was only possible thanks to the supply deliveries from the former colonies (aka as USA) and the massive buff of Spits/Hurricanes thanks to the 100 octane fuel delivered by them - which broke the dominance of the 109s as shown and demonstrated above France.
The secret fuel that made the Spitfire supreme
So technically seen we have a significant power increase based on US fuel which allowed pilots to go into fights with a much higher chance of success. Really glorious fights like the Gladiators vs Italy above Malta showed the importance of pilot training - but the Fighter Command faced similar trained pilots with actual combat experience gained above Spain, Poland and France…
And as a side note:
I am quite sure that I read years ago that the Polish pilots were either leading or at least on par with any Commonwealth nation regarding their individual combat effectiveness.
And as last remark:
From today’s perspective it is not finally clear if this whole battle was really aimed to invade the British Islands - if this would have been a serious goal the Germans would have tried to wipe out the 300k+ soldiers in Dunkerque at all cost - they represented the majority of the actual fighting force of the well trained British Army.
So from a strategic perspective this whole narrative “RAF FC saved the UK” makes no sense as the RN was the decisive factor - they prevented any serious attempt for an invasion due to their sheer size and the expected annihilation of any invasion fleet - the Germans never had enough vessels to do that.
It looks like that we will be provided with details about actual peace negotiations of the family formerly known as Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha (rebranded in 1917 to Windsor) with their German relatives in 2041 or 2047 - the documents in question are still classified until then.
Outside Scotland, Ireland, India and tourism centers in Spain & countries in the Mediterranean i do not see any dislikes of British people.
From my perspective there is more a common level of compassion for their rather questionable choices regarding leading politicians - in combination with even more questionable preferences regarding their favourite domestic dishes in case they are not influenced by former colonies…
Have a good one!
Maybe we’ll get a Lend-Lease decal this year ;)
Thanks, you too
Oddly enough with that decal, it’s historically incorrect for the US flag since we only had 48 stars back then.

I believe that in 2024, the day this decal was released in commemoration to this moment, USA has 50 incorporated states.
Facepalm French American is not French. French Americans are the descendants of their parents or the parents of their parents. Nationality is American, Ethnicity is French. This is how it always goes in every country you are born in.
If you live in France then your Nationality is French, but if your parents were let’s say French and Korean.
Then you are French-Korean in Ethnicity.
It’s not rocket science. Also, France didn’t exist, they capitulated on June 22nd, 1940. Battle Of Britain occurred on July 10th,1940->October 31st, 1940. Aka France has been non-existent for over 2 weeks and 4 days. So no US flag remains higher cause your president was historically incompetent.
You made a valid point - but with the same logic you might argue that Germany nuked Jspan or the Nazi flag should have been displayed on the moon.
Iirc correctly there are 2 collective narratives regarding both WWs:
The glory Empire had to save France twice - and the US had to save the Empire twice - so we are back at square 1…
Not sure if this holds any water - being able to assess what somebody else wanted to do requires that the person in question is a rational person with a clear mind.
It is hard to believe that a vegetarian with a meth addiction can be measured by “normal” standards. Even if this whole topic produced more literature than anything else in the 20th century.
This is the official narrative. That does not imply that it has to be true.
Valid point number 2.
Have a good one!
Looking forward to see the development of the actual numbers of stars in the flag over the next 4 years.
Have a good one!
Puh, with this logic you have to remove the Polish flag too. Not sure if it makes really sense to follow this path…
Have a good one!
Neither existed, governmental wise. In terms of people that’s different. In which the flags are presenting the people, not their governments or the country’s. it’s difficult to entirely explain since it gets very very complicated. So that’s relatively a gist.
Total Rubbish.
As far as i am concerned, the USA flag should NOT EVEN BE ON THE DECAL. The US were NEVER, EVER a part of the “Battle of Britain”. How many US pilots fought over the Channel eh??? NONE WHAT-SO-EVER. Zero, zilch, nada, none. Will you learn your history CORRECTLY.
As far as I look at it, At the beginning of WW2, The USA was an enemy for supplying our enemy. Joining the war half way through was not a choice after Japan joined the AXIS forces attacked the USA.
When the war was well under way, the USA were still selling and supplying goods to the nazis. If it wasn’t for the “yanks” supplying our ENEMY with steel, armoured vehicles and a lot of other goods, the war could have turned out differently as the nazis would not have had as many resourses. It’s not rocket science.
FORD and GENERAL MOTORS were making and exporting military vehicles to the nazis. Coca Cola were not allowed to sell Coke to Germany, so they got around it by inventing FANTA, just for Germany, yes yanks, that’s where Fanta comes from. That is just 2 examples of supplying our enemy, do I need to provide more??? Even after Japan entered the war against the US, they still had contracts supplying the Germans. Read proper history instead of just US history which is heavily one sided to make them all look like heroes, which they are NOT.
By the time the yanks joined WW2 in Europe, we were just starting to turn the tide of the war. The Germans had spread themselves too thin, especially after attacking Russia. They spread themselves too thin all over Europe and on the African continent.
You could say The Falklands war could have been stopped but for the bloody USA. The USA were the ones who told Argentina that us British would not be able to take them back. That is what made the Argentinians brave enough to have a go in the first place, and then got their arses totally kicked back to Argentina - because the USA were “WRONG” yet again.
The US is no friend to anyone unless it benefits them only. The US in general is very 2 faced to the whole world.
NFLD isn’t historical either ;-)

The British army was in America, but, King George was never in America.
1 Royal against a whole US government. Not really a comparison is it. In England, from the 1700’s, Britain was ruled by the government, not by the royal family. Even today, the royal family are more like British envoys than rulers. Royals have no say in the running of the country. It’s only because of tradition that the king or queen has to sign off new laws and close or open parliament. In real life, the royals have no powers of ruling what so ever.
Prince Edward VIII had nothing to do with the British government and had no powers in the chambers what so ever. Don’t forget, he was the one that abdicated and married a US devorcee called Mrs Simpson.
All I saw was a nazis sympathyser marrying a woman from a nazis sympathiser/supplying country, and good riddance to Edward. A lot of Brits think this way, although you will always get your royalists who will always defend them till the end of the earth.
You Americans need to read more European history books instead of your own heavily biased history books.
I dunno, seems to me this decal is just recognizing the people from as many regions involved as possible. Not showing how much they did, just who aided.
Can’t really say that it feels like anyone is being represented more or less.
As you know history is written by the victors.
Not disputing what you are saying just seems in your post as if you don’t appreciate the sacrifices made, which maybe I’m incorrect about.
FWIW, I would think the Union Jack should be top and center of the Battle of Britain decal.
Cheers.
This thread is one of the best I’ve seen XD. Arguing about the point of prominence on a circle.
The real question in my mind is why countries like Barbados and Jamaica are represented when their contributions were so small in comparison.

Why are Americans so disrespectful???
Here is an example of the disrespect. If you ask an American a question that they don’t like, like… “Who put you in charge”? The first words out of an American mouth is “Ya Mom”. That really shows the world you are respectfull of others doesn’t it.
The world doesn’t like America, we just put up with the US. Even friendly countries don’t really like the US.
Is this thread really arguing about the order of flags around a made up decal, as though that’s in any way passing judgement on their countries relative influence on the Battle of Britain?
Is there some sort of sacred flag rule that I am unfamilar with, where being at the bottom of a circle of flags is some manner of snub?
It feels rather disrespectful to turn a day meant to memorialize all those who helped defend Britain in it’s darkess hour into an immature d*** measuring contest about who’s country helped more. Take your jingoistic nonsense somewhere else.
