Barrel Hit Registration – Rounds Disappearing on Gas Extractors and Angled Shots

I’ve encountered what appears to be an increasing and consistent issue with how the game registers hits on barrels and barrel-mounted components, and wanted to check with the community before filing a formal report.

When shooting at tank turrets at multiple ranges sometimes there’s a possibility to hit the barrel, particularly during face-to-face engagements. Nevertheless, rounds frequently disappear with no damage or component destruction when hitting gas extractors, muzzle brakes, or other barrel-mounted parts. Other times the angle is steep enough that penetration should be likely with a ricochet, especially against lighter vehicles and SPAA. Yet, the rounds simply vanish as if the collision geometry is absorbing them without any effect.

Recently, as far as I remember, this has been happening to me with high-penetration APFSDS (DM33, Type93) against:

  • T-64, T-72, T-62, Leopard 2K, Leopard 1 variants…
  • Light tanks: Radkampfwagen, TAM…
  • SPAA: ZSU-23-4…

The rounds should either penetrate, ricochet visibly, or damage the components they hit. Instead they register as if they hit a void.

Has anyone else encountered this? Especially angled barrel hits that should logically penetrate light tank barrels, damage exposed barrel components, penetrate light armor or bounce instead of disappearing?

  • Yes, frequently
  • Yes, occasionally
  • No, I haven’t noticed it
  • I’m not sure

Especially with solid shot. Trying to disable a German at lower tiers with a British or French tank is always “fun”

Had this happen today. Shot a SU-152 barrel at the slotty muzzle brake and it only turned it red. A second shot even closer to the end of the barrel, which is supposed to give you an automatic black, did nothing.
So they’ve probably nerfed the barrel damage slider.
Not a bug. /s
