BAe Sea Harrier - Technical data and discussion

Old standard Gr.3 with the weaker engine

Physical proof that the F-104 is the superior dogfighter to the F-16A.

Question for you. Do you think that the F-35 is a better dogfighter than the Eurofighter? Why or why not?

Look at chart above

and so is the mig21

and it shows that the harrier has worse str and itr than pretty much all 4th gens

Great it was too compare to F-4E

thats literally what pilots notes are for the most part tbh

a pilots recollection of something and performance charts are 2 different things

and even then it is at best equal to a F-4 that is carrying 4 missiles and a drop tank

and its not like another F-4 STR chart has been posted as well

last time i checked 14Β°/s is higher than 13

Harrier is over 14 but ok lol

your chart says 14Β° at best for the harrier
and the max STR for the phantom is a bit over 14.5Β°/S

and for that the harrier needs to be more than 2 times lighter than the phantom

what an amazing achivement

a plane weighing ~17k lbs can go toe on toe with one that weighs ~42k lbs

πŸ˜‚

Harrier weights only 12,000 dry

brother

what weight is the chart at you sent?

becasue that looks an awful lot like 17211 lbs to me
which one might round to 17k lbs

and lets look at what the phantom chart says
image

42277 lbs, which one might round to 42k lbs

It should also be noted that this comparison is for an F-4E at near maximum fuel and with 4 Sparrows equipped. Sustained Turn Rate at sea level would improve by probably 2-3 degrees per second if they were expended prior to a merge.

its funny how we went from the harrier is the greatest dogfighter ever against anything to the harrier is better than the F-4

Why are you comparing the weights of these 2 aircraft anyway?

The harrier sustains more then it at comparative fuel weights and drag indexes

And has a much better ITR.

they are both carrying around 80% fuel

and the harrier has already a worse STR

and now you want to tell me that the harrier will magically outperform the F-4 once they are both at a higher or lower fuel state?

holy copium

from 0 to 450 knots the Harrier has a sustained turn rate advantage. Its got the ITR advantage as well.

Both with comparative fuel % and drag.

A harrier will have 3 times the amount of combat fuel time.

Nothing magical about it here as seen in the charts both at basically the same % of internal fuel and drag the Harrier (The Harrier with the worse engine then later variants) will out rate it. Provided that is the engine is running at the normal lift dry RPM of 100% vs the 95.5% rpm setting for maximum thrust. MT rating gives 4.5G sustained and normal lift proved 6.2G as the maximum sustained load factor.

A Gr.3 with the later improved engine will sustain 5.25G with only the maximum thrust rating 95.5% RPM, likely meaning it will sustain considerably more when using the normal lift rating.
