It will do exactly that!
Things being easier is always better. If you didn’t want to use them… don’t. When you do, though, it’s easier. So win-win, objectively better.
You still get your hand held every time you cross the street, and get your teeth brushed for you too?
It’s not even just convenience, it prevents a non-zero number of straight up wasted backups invested into vehicles you decide not to play as much later, but cannot remove the backup from.
Have you played the mobile game? Spending money is what is streamlined in the menus. I could not even find the exit button. I see stuff like the backup change as an expansion on these methods. Is it good to be able to use backups in battle? Sure. Am I going to suspect f2p schemes in a f2p game? yes.
They could also send a person to your house to watch you play and let you know when you’ve already spawned a vehicle and help you decide when to spend a backup. There is, eventually, a point where asking the player to literally just read what is on the screen.
If it wasn’t a F2P ploy, it would tell you how many universal backups you have remaining, but they don’t want you to know while you’re in the match, so when they dry up, you miss them when the total reaches 0.
Make a suggestion. Just have the number print small, so it will fit.
I told you they did what they did deliberately. It’s just a matter of figuring out how the current new changes are meant to engage the player.
I’m sure they’ll take it under advisement. ;p
I’m not against the idea, but also if you’re using your backups only when you actually need them and you run out, did you really waste any of them? You just didn’t have as many as you felt you needed.
Doesn’t matter how “suspect” you are if you can’t explain any method by which a non-blind, sober, quasi-responsible person loses anything from this change. As mentioned immediately above me, “using all your backups in situations where they helped you” is not “losing something”. And it’s easy to explain how people gain from it.
Don’t underestimate changes that factor in gamer psychology.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they would take a next step and liberate all existing bound backups into the pool and then eliminate the bounding mechanic from the code. Maybe this is a storage issue.
I am sure this is seen as fraud by some, as these backups may have been paid for. Factually, one would profit from such a step, provided one is a “non-blind, sober, quasi-responsible person”.
The problem might sneak in, when the trophy dropping of 2 or 5 bound backups is replaced by the dropping of one unbound backup. We shall see.
Well, I have never even seen the option. But it seems there is a reason, I have at least 1 - 2 back ups on every vehicle that is in a preset for literally everything. Every now and then I make a new preset or change a vehicle or two(like after BR changes usually) and I guess that is just negating the whole process for me. Since I mostly play AB, I actually have the chance and use one or two here and there. But there have also been occasions I used them all on a vehicle and didn’t remember to “bump it back up” and have gone into a game and thought I needed one, but that is rare. Whatever the “motivation”, I think it’s ok . … most players that even use back ups know how they work and when to use them . . . for whatever reason.
games don’t have “Storage issues” unless it’s something along the lines of the magnitude of a video or picture or a big database of data. OR possibly if it has to be accessed in a fraction of a second mid-match (which is almost no meta data in the game afaik). Replays are about the only example I know of in WT (even though they’re not videos, of course, it’s still a ton of data being constantly generated) that make sense to cull or limit.
Backups per vehicle is nothing. 2,000 ish vehicles x let’s say 5,000,000 players x 1 short integer = 19 gigabytes. Cloud storage is like literally a few of pennies or something per gigabyte (couple for storage, few per GB transferred maybe). The whole backups data table is going to cost them like the price of one coffee per month or around that.
And this is not during-match stuff where you need to cache it all, you can take many seconds to pull the data from cloud or SQL and it’s fine here.
I found a bit of UI in ships. Maybe it’s in tanks and planes, but in the description of the vehicle, if you hover over it in selection in game, in the middle somewhere in gold, it says 3 vehicles left, at the start of the match.
