Asymmetrical Battles Await You In the “Advance” Event!

I would like a tweak to the mode.

the game starts with both teams trying to take the middle cap point and push back the other to their HQ.

It would allow both teams to get a chance to attack and defend while almost completely eliminating the camping issue.

also means people wont crash out because they arent getting put on the defend/attack side that they want

grind + an unlock structure + generally FtP (3 elements) so yes that would potentially be semi gatcha, I’ve only played CoD1 so have no idea how it works today

the only defining feature of a gacha game is the game being cored around a mandatory gambling mechanic to obtain items or progression

warthunder is not centred around anything like that so is not a gacha game, its just a standard MMO combat game

I didn’t even get a chance to play it. Looked awesome. I’ve been hoping for a Rush style mode for ages now.

The word gacha comes from gachapon, which is a Japanese term describing the sound of toy capsule gambling machines. Gambling is the defining feature of gacha. War thunder’s gambling is limited to uncommon loot boxes

yes that could be really good, they should also add this :)

could also fix the ‘I wanted to x’ by having 2 consecutive rounds so you get one attack and one defend per map. This would also help with unbalanced matches which can drag on if defenders are greatly superior, or end very quickly if it’s the attacker who is.

A really solid idea man.

WT’s model is clearly “constant expansion”. That usually means vehicles but it can also mean mechanics, the arrival of infantry etc. And they know how to buy time for themselves. Look at ground, where over the last period of time they’ve started adding a lot of utility vehicles, while in the meantime new game modes are being worked on.

i would like that kind of thing. Battlefield 1 had a similar thing with operations going across several maps within a campaign. I dont think it would really work for WT as this is much more of a “pick up and play” for 30 mins than play an online campaign for an hour or two game for most. would risk a lot of people backing out after the first round.

Guildwars had something with 5 maps:

side A fortress
side A defense advantage
balanced (starts here)
side B defense advantage
side B fortress

It was a meta game that changed maps every day(?) depending on the combined results of the previous period - in the WT context I don’t think there was such an obvious progressive advantage when moving through the points.

However, as a game based in reality this is vastly more difficult for them to achieve. if it was a fantasy setting the game would be easier to balance, and with casual players you just end up getting some pissed off players thinking ‘I knew where to go as B fell on port novorossiysk but my team didn’t have a clue’

I’m aware of the origin, Semi = Half, consider SAP shells, its wordplay based on that.

I disagree with your interpretation, but of course it’s subjective - gambling is a monetization method, acquisition is the primary goal of gatcha IMO

its not the origin, its the only definition

what youre describing with everything else you attribute to being ‘semi-gacha’ is just how all free to play MMOs have basically always worked

most gacha games dont even have a tech tree/unlock structure

Just make Advance available to the community again and make adjustments as needed. Gaijin does the same thing for every other mode.

Wait a minute, how did I miss this!?

Welp, F me.

no thanks

We used to have similar game modes with sequential capture of points… no idea why they were removed - probably too complicated for player base and/or Gaijin’s stupid BR system means they can’t actually be “balanced”

They need to bring it back and make it permanent.

I understand not wanting nation based matchmaking in random battles, but could we bring it back as events like this too? Was super fun back in the day to have Allies vs Axis, NATO vs Soviets, etc.

Part of the issue is that back in the day nations felt a lot more unique

The comp of nations on each side lead to some strategic depth considering the capabilities of what your opponents and teammates would have

While you still have some of this, like at BR 6.7 or so, the deluge of imported copy-paste designs means that regardless of whether you do nation based matchmaking or not it won’t feel like it did incites 2018

Testing period for this version of the event ended July 6th (11:00 GMT).

New test window is on and can be discussed here:
