ASEAN sadly lacks even the vehicle volume Israel provides for a dedicated tech tree IMO without having more copy-paste than China and Israel.

With China being vastly more voluminous with domestic equipment options than Japan, it makes sense for ASEAN to go to Japan in-game, while China gets North Korea, Pakistan, and maybe a couple others.
