Artillery for All Ground Vehicles

Many vehicles as you are all aware get access to artillery , its about time that all vehicles should have the same .
Light ,medium ,AAA all have access but heavies , tanks destroyers do not .
There lies the problem how is it fair for certain vehicles to have arty but not others ?.In real life all vehicles have access to CAS, Naval Gunfire , and arty so it should be in war thunder .
So many players get killed either repairing or getting a new crewman that shouldn’t be .
This poll is for you to to decide yes or no to all arty access .
Also access not just to HE shells but smoke shells for these tanks without chargers

Yes and no, not all vehicles has access to radio module, which could be justified some majority of light and medium tanks has this ability, which isn’t the case of War Thunder that threats this subject as balancing measure I think, same way some tank destroyers have scouting ability and the majority not.

Only tanks with the correct radio equipment should be able to do this. And should be able to select what artillery it actually is, should be able to call in 203mm or 240mm arty for US stuff of that time, and 14/16 inch arty for maps next to ocean.

Adding the stationary big artillery and smaller spg’s as a destroyable objective, which once destroyed (by aircraft probably), leaves the team with slightly less accurate, smaller caliber arty (if stationary artillery is destroyed) and if both are destroyed, then it switches to mortars which can be carried by infantry or light vehicles, would be pretty cool

I think different vehicles should get access to different arty.

Scouts would naturally have the greatest range of artillery as they are the best equipped to identify targets and provide correction of fire.

I also think artillery should be a modification similar to selecting different cannons on a plane.

Artillery should be selectable for callibre and shell type based on BR, vehicle class and technology level and based on tech tree.

Different artillery systems should have distinct characteristics, i.e: accuracy, rate of fire, shell/missile/rocket types available, number of guns in a battery. Barrage type, walking, static, concentrated, spread.

(Example being, guns with higher rates of fire will fire more shots per barage.)

(Shells types, smoke, airburst, mines, cluster, HE, Willy Pete, I don’t know many rocket artillery types but maybe fuel air bombs?)

Nation and Rank Specific, US and Germany at 3.7 wouldn’t have access to 25 pounder barrages for example. But Brittain might have access to 155mm.

Given that I’ve suggested this level of detail, maybe we let players have artilley controlled separately like a UAV drone, and the player needs to aim and fire their own shots based on grid/map reference. This introduces the option for skilled based arty play, a teams battery could be an offsite location similar disance to a helicopter airfield that spawns randomly at one of a set few locations. This allows arty to be strafed by planes or cannons to fire counter battery etc. I’m well aware that this is getting dangerously close to the shitty Wot artillery.

Only light tanks should have arty, zero fun to face a medium tank with an open roof tank destroyer if he knows where you are.

Better take: remove arty from all vehicles. Arty is used for 3 things.

1: throw arty at caps. Discouraging the one thing that the ONE game mode this game has is based on. Whats the alternative? Playing deathmatch rather than the objectives? Already enough of that in this game without encouraging it.

2: throw arty at chokepoints in the first 10s. Then you have a chance to disable or kill slower vehicles for free. Whats the alternative? not leaving your spawn?

3: Punishing vehicles for using some of the few pieces of cover that exist on each map. Maps are too small to realistically relocate every time someone throws arty. Especially since 2/3 of a team has arty with a short enough CD to use it multiple times per life. We already have enough spacebar warriors using their one button free kills that punish people for remaining in place. We don’t need more mechanics to do this.

Random mechanics in tactical games are nearly universally bad. Just randomly dying because someone clicked on the map is absurd in a mode that tries to emulate realism.

And really, are we trying to say there are 2/3 as many artillery batteries as tanks in a battle? wtf is this logic. Not only that, you have arty already in the battle on the front lines.

And to cap it off, the dumbest parto f the mechanic: IRL, you spot for arty. In game, arty spots for you. True Russian logic.

I’m hoping you are joking, because that statement is just silly in the context of this game. We not dealing with the thing arty is best against: infantry and static defenses. We are dealing with mobile vehicles smashed into a postage stamp sized arena. We are dealing with excelent 3rd person visiblity, radio capability, spotting, and real-time maps. However, the tank physics are intended to be realistic. The whole arty mechanic however is not.

To start, arty mainly works with the incredibly broken overpressure mechanic thats one of the least reliable mechanics in this game. Its literaly a dice roll. I’ve been using 4.5KG HE ATGMs at 8.0 at 8.0 vs IFVs and it will regularly fail to overpressure AA or IFVs. A 105 arty round hitting a WW2 tank roof should kill it without fail. Few WW2 tanks have >30mm roof armor. In game, it has a CHANCE to kill it. completely random. Meanwhile, you can overpressure an open-topped tank from 50m away with the same arty round. I’ve had deaths where the death recap can’t even show a single bit of shrapnel in the death recap because the hit was so far away. I’ve had HE round hit the opposite side of rocks i’m hiding behind and still overpressure me. So arty is both OP vs the weakest vehicles that are supposed to be capping and hiding and weakest against heavy vehicles its supposed to be used against.

Its current use is detrimental to all forms of gameplay.

I don’t think he even knows what he’s talking about. Artillery is one the most useful things in a war.

versus infantry and static positions. You know, the most common things in war. Not vs tanks.

Ground forces should be ground forces. But there is too much invested in combined arms to remove planes and there isn’t enough players to split it into ground and combined arms. So we suffer spacebar warriors with their delusions of skill vs near helpless foes.

As arty stands, it serves no purpose but to remove skill from the game and detriment some of weakest vehicles in the game. It doesn’t serve its intended purpose and improving it would be removing even more skill from the game.

Ah yes, because we need to make clicking on a map more powerful. What a horrible take.
