Following its introduction to service in 2011, the Boxer has proven to be a superbly adaptable combat platform. Modifications have included the likes of mobile gun systems, anti-tank missile platforms, mobile artillery systems, and self-propelled anti-aircraft systems. Most modifications, however, have focused on improving and augmenting what the Boxer is already known for: carrying infantry into battle, which has produced such modifications as the Boxer LANCE30 and Vilkas. Today’s suggestion however promises to be one of the most capable Boxer IFV variants to date, the Boxer T40 which was first unveiled by Nicholas Drummond in January 2025.

The Boxer itself should be fairly familiar to most people. Protection-wise the Boxer features a baseline of STANAG 4 which provides protection against 14.5 mm armour piercing bullets, and on the frontal arc this is increased to STANAG 6 and provides protection against 30 mm APFSFS. The Boxer is also lined with AMAP-L spall liners throughout the entire crew cabin and also features run-flat tyres. The mobility of the Boxer is fairly respectable, with a 600 kW MTU v8 199TE21 engine which can propel the Boxer to a top speed of 103 km/h.

The business end of this Boxer is where things get interesting, featuring a KNDS France T40 turret. This is a two-man turret equipped with CTA 40 40 mm cannon which fires a unique telescoped ammunition in a variety of types including APFSDS, KE-AB (kinetic energy airburst), as well as various general-purpose rounds. In addition, the T40 turret features two Akeron MP launchers, one located on either side of the turret. These are highly capable fire-and-forget anti-tank missiles similar to the Spike-LR, featuring a range of 4,000 m and a penetration of 1000 mm of RHA. Akeron MP also features lock-on-after-launch capabilities through the use of a fibre-optic cable as a real-time datalink. The T40 turret also features a panoramic thermal imager for the commander, a remote weapon station with an M2 HMG, and 4 smoke dischargers.

Due to the fact that the Boxer T40 was only unveiled recently, there is still some information that isn’t yet known, such as if this is intended to be a reconnaissance vehicle or if it will retain its troop-carrying capacity. It could, however, prove to be an interesting event vehicle for Germany in a similar vein to the Boxer MGS, or it could be placed into the light tank line as an upgrade or alternative to the Puma VJTF.

This fits more into the UK/France, as Boxer was cocreated with the UK and Netherlands, and the turret and missiles are very French

doesn’t make any sense to go to Germany

yes, but has no f-ing business going to germany.

Boxer is not British. It’s a joint venture between Rheinmetall and KMW (now KNDS Deutschland). Netherlands entered the program in 2001 and Britain left the program in 2003.

Artec is a German company.

its a german project, its the same reason the boxer mgs is in the german tree and not the french.
France / UK had no hands in the development of this vehicle. Independent project of a german company showing of the possibility.
Its 1:1 the Boxer MGS

As long as no country adapts it.
The vehicle would go to the developer, being germany

But this specific T40 development is a French proposal for the UK, who also visibly didn’t test it, not a German development tho.
It’d make more sense for it to go to one of these 2 countries rather than Germany.

And your sources for that are what?

Its a T40 turret yes made by KNDS France, but it is a independent project by Artec which is based in germany.

As i said its 1:1 the Boxer MGS, which suprise suprise is in the german tree

I looked again, neither of us are wrong. It’s a joint KMW/NEXTER proposal, as per KNDS themselves, so it could go either or both Germany and France. Would make sense as chassis is German and turret and weapons are French

This suggestion is for Germany but anyone is free to make the same suggestion for France too.

But the VBCI-2 CT40 might be a more interesting addition for France, since it uses a French chassis.

hm fair enough if it is true whats written there,
I am always a bit sceptical of blank word pdfs where u cant trace it back reliably to the source.
French and germany at least would be reliable options in that case.
But less so UK, if proposals are enough germany cant get the US Viper heli.

Alternatively there is the lockheed martin option for the UK with javelins

Yea no problems. I was also under the wrong impression at the beginning.

The VBCI-2 CT40 is also already suggested AFAIK, but considering Gaijin’s track record of adding new things to France they are currently not doing great (this situation is very similar to the DF105 situation, where France had to wait 3 years to finally not get its unique FL11 turret and ending up with the DF105)

The hyperlink directly traces this to the UK parliament (or I am not getting something), so it’s basically primary at this point.
Only thing that is not clear is wether the UK tested it. If not, as you said, they probably wouldn’t have a claim on it (and even if they did, they are not Sweden, so they probably won’t get something they simply tested)

I at least was not able to open the equivalent UK website, might have been removed /forged for all i know.
I am not that familiar with link manipulation or how to navigate the british website.
