Armor of the saint Chamond is incorrect

Chamond+02

We all know that the Saint Chamond that we have in game is one of the late production variants of the tank, the easiest way to tell is that early variants had 3 cylindrical ports on the roof, while later ones only a single viewing port for the driver.

A lot of people seems to have disagreements regarding the armor protection of the tank, but i’ve gathered information to provide some clarifications in the topic.

The problem right now is that the tank that we got is lacking in the armor department, because it’s missing important parts of the internal plating.

Right now in game, the tank stats are:

  • 11mm of armor in the upper plate angled at 36° and 11mm for the lower plate angled at 42°
  • 8.5mm + 8.5mm = 17mm of armor for the sides
  • 8.5mm back, 5.4mm roof and 8.5mm floor.

So 11 / 17 / 8.5 mm

I got access to a few manuals of the Saint Chamond, more specifically the one that talks about armor protection, i’m not gonna show it here, because i’m not sure if that’s allowed. Now what is wrong with the tank?

The problem lies more specifically in the front and side armor, that according to the manuals should be significantly thicker. Specially the frontal armor, not only it’s missing a internal plate, the upper part of the armor is at the wrong angle.

Now for how the armor should be according to the manual:

  • Two plates of 11mm at the front for a total of 22mm of armor, the upper part of the armor should be angled at 45° not 36°
  • 8.5mm + 8.5mm + 6.5mm of side armor for a total of 22.5mm on the sides.

So it should be 22 / 22.5 / 8.5 mm

Now, from what i read the rest of the armor (rear, roof and belly) is correct. But as i’ve explained, the amount of armor that the tank is missing is quite significant, and this drastically affected its performance in the event, and now in normal matches, i already made a issue report about it

I really hope they adjust the vehicle, because all of this, really causes a very negative impact on it’s performance.

You can ask a moderater if he can check whether the document is save or not. (Not sure but I heard of that)

I’m pretty sure that documents that are over 100 years old are open to the public and completely fine to post.

It would not remotely surprise me if the French still considered this critical information, purely out of spite.

its 100 years old ofc you can show it

It depends, some archives do not like their stuff being posted and copyright it
