This game was always a simulator.
The reason why I started playing War Thunder was because it’s a simulator with good controls.
If War Thunder ever goes arcade, I stop playing. There’s already an arcade game mode for people that want that anyway.

In what way not?
Maps?
Fire Controls?
Damage controls?
Abandoning vehicles?
Unit combinations?
Radar msl related?
IR msl anti flare?
Always changing gun damage?
Always changing flight models?
And many more to say lol
Calling war thunder a sim is like calling Forza horizon a racing simulator, and I think the term simcade describes it much more accurately. It does have sim elements, but many things are simplified or changed to be more arcadey to make the game more accessible and easier.
Simplified mechanics include:
There’s also piston engine simulation being very barebones or straight up wrong, even with MEC.
Stuff can be nerfed or buffed from poorly made reports, and many other vehicles are artificially held back, despite the full capability not being OP.
IR seekers are a mess, and many IR missiles are underperforming, same with ARH missiles.
Dual plane control still isn’t modelled for missiles, causing some such as the Aim-54 to underperform.
The camera placement in most planes is set up to line up with the centre of the gunsight, causing cameras to be very offset. (The JH-7 suffers hard from this since apparently having the gunsight not being in the middle of the HUD is impossible.)
If you want to see how much Gaijin cares about simulation and realism, check out the naval damage control system devblog. They view tactics as exploits, and will gladly dumb down the game when it doesn’t need it to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
People like this it is why the game keeps getting dumb down, garbage maps, garbage non-existent mechanics to keep the game simple and boring gameplay. Casuals need not apply.
Definition of fun:

Yes it is!
Big booom to child is basically one of many fun things to do in that game
ngl i mostly have fun in this game, except for the bad moments everyone feels now and then but overall i have fun. But i also enjoy simulators sooooo ye
War Thunder is arcade enough, but not too arcade (aka, it doesn’t have that health bar rubbish that you see in WoT, it has RB mode which doesn’t just point out every enemy around, etc). It’s enough for me.
Contrary - it was more simulator and become more video game.
Not sure when you started playing but with a comment like this you would have cried at the game pre-2022, before the snail started holding everyones hand.
Never been a simulator arcade sim lite at best
Until you’re doing this in ground rb and those matches last longer than 5 minutes there’s no sim in this game. Just perceptions of realism
This has to be a joke of some kind…in what sense?
If anything, WT is losing many of its “simulator” features…in Ground, tanks behave as race cars, even some “heavy” ones. Ahistorical content is everywhere (prototypes and fictional, way mixed eras, some odd maps) and games are played mostly as fortnite with (much) slower reloads…
And i ear that naval made aiming foolproof…hence unfunfor those that took the time to learn it…
Gun damage hasn’t changed in years.
Bugs showing up isn’t change.
Flight models being refined when new information comes is realistic.
The rest are obviously realistic, or in the case of “unit combinations” isn’t related to realism at all.
@Ion_492
Calling War Thunder a simulator is like calling Assetto Corsa* a simulator.
Controls are not arcade/realism.
Features not being in a piece of software doesn’t make that arcade, otherwise according to the standards laid in your post, there are zero simulators on this planet.
If anything, gaijin has been turning this game more and more arcade, even in sim modes with certain choices.
Tanks in Squad for example are a nice example of a simcade gameplay.
GRB gameplay is pretty much a full on arcade with few realistic things sprinkled in.
