I see what you mean about being “forced” to buy a premium. I got lucky and rolled a talisman for my Rooikat, so I might survive. But I have been increasingly tempted to drop some money on WarThunder. In my mind I’m thinking “it’s only a couple hours pay”
To be honest what they did is …semi-smart.
It’s not 5 matches.
It’s 5 matches per nation…like…50 games.
But it’s not really helping you if you are focused to one nation , though 50 games are 50 games…most of time someone won’t even play 50 games a day…
If your biggest motivation is to grind, then yeah, kinda forced to pay.
You can avoid premium vehicle, but will need premium time when discounts hits (50% off) + talisman (50% off) or shop random talisman
Or else you will become insane 😊
Play, get cupons, sell cupons, get GJN, buy premiums without spending a penny

Skill is getting 3 kills in a BT-7M at 10.0.
I do wonder what my K/D would look like if I actually played for K/D
If I didn’t respawn when the team was losing,
If I didn’t run the BT-7M and BT-5 in 10.0–12.0,
If I played passively instead of pushing back the enemy faster than my team could even advance…
Maybe when I start Germany or the US, I’ll try playing for stats
But of course, saying all this doesn’t really mean anything.

Exactly, KD is just nothing but how good you camp and how bad the enemy team is. I could easily sit at 3.0 in a German tank and decimate the entire enemy team. But that’s not skill, that’s just abusing the game.
.43 in a Yak 9K, no matter the BR, is still atrocious
depends of when it was played… the Yak 9K used to be utter garbadge until just a year before it got APHE when it turned into “meh” and then APHE turned it from “meh” into the destroyer of worlds.

Not a 1:1 translator but a damn good one, having a high KD at the very least shows you actually spawn and get a good number of kills before you die.
I’m not saying people should play for KD but your argument QUITE LITERALLY was “nah get good” while you’re mediocre. And when I say this I’m not claiming to be good either. Tho I have a friend I consider to be good and most his KD in ground is usually above 2 with every vehicle and he still takes almost 1000 matches to finish rank V+ and move on to the next. I’m grinding Swedish ground and I’m going through the same. Ground and naval grind are so bad it literally makes me want to stop playing this game, and I’ve been here for almost a decade and with 6k hours of gameplay time.

Man I never had a prem ground US and the grind to rank VII only took 1 year 2 months plus to rank 6 Air.
The only prems I have are.
Air. F-89B, A2D, Rassmusean P-36, US starter plane, German and British Starter planes.
Ground. Partisan.

I want top tier Russia just to use the BT there.
My impression is that the game is designed around having a premium account with premium vehicles being one 3 main types
- A vehicle that is effectively a premium version of an existing tech tree vehicle;
– Prem Jagpanther, Hellcat Black Cat. - A somewhat impractical vehicle that offers a unique style of play not usually found in the tech tree;
– Brummbar or Sherman Calliope - A captured vehicle from another nation.
– Russian M4A2 76, Japanese, Italian Tigers
The types above are not mutually exclusive.
I’d rather not get bogged down by pay to win vehicles, because i dont believe in it

6 hours will a full premium+premium time lineup about
9 hours without premium vics (you really need at least 2, its worth spawning again into winning matches if you die)
18 hours without either

So for a good performing grb match that lasted a while I usually get like 15k rp in the 10.3 paypig russian lineup, if those vics werent all premium that would only be 10k rp, and if I didnt have either it would be 5k rp.
