Are US ships and US/Japanese/French coastal worth it?

I’m trying to achieve the goal of getting at least one top tier vehicle for every type. I got the plane by F-16AJ and tanks by T-80BVM.

Now I’m looking towards ships and boats.

So far I’m at my furthest at USSR and US ships, having grinded all rank 4.

My further at Coastal is Japan.

Ships

Since I have researched some Rank 5 US ships, should I proceed? Moreover, are US ships competitive at rank 5-6?

Coastals

Next, coastal is a bit more complicated because there is just vast differences in performance of the ships. I have got the PT-174 and K-8 Late Tailsman from battle pass store.

I’m looking forward to a country with good Frigates. Mostly looking towards 3.3+ BR because you always get uptiered to 3.3 anyway (due to how inactive the lower BR is). Also the fact that destroyers will always be present (which frigates share the spawn) and that boats may not show up at all.

French have a short tree, which means reaching the top will be techanically faster, but it seems…not competitive. 2 MTBs (including Premium one), 1 gunboat.

US seems to lack frigates at the 3.3 range.

Japan seems to be quite competitive at a glimpse, having a healthy mixture of light boats and frigates. It have the 3.3 PG02 and Akebono, which seems…okay? I might pick them up when I get the GEs from the premium packs.

Final words

I would apperciate if you guys can introduce me some quirky, fun and competitive ship/boat nation, seeing that I play all nations (in planes, tanks, naval).

This is kind of important for me, because the sales is coming up and I am looking for the right place to invest.

From fighting the US , they have some of the best light/heavy cruisers in game, Some of them like Atlanta are crazy OP.

Only major weakness of the US TT is a bug with their top tier BBs which result in them getting easily one shot.

As for ship recommendations. I’ve been having a blast playing HMS London again recently whilst waiting for the promised new top tier Battleship for Britain, which is either coming this update or next.

Yeah I have the Atlanta, it’s very good against destroyers, though it struggles against heavier armored ships.

The 200mm + cruiusers are…okay? I don’t know much because I haven’t played other heavy criusers yet.

Anyway, how bad is the one shooting problem is for US battleships? I’ve heard that the Arkansas/Japanese ship Yamashiro also have the same problem (If they go on sales I am considering one of them).

The US is strong with cruisers. Pittsburgh and Roanoke are a top shelf 6.0 lineup imo. I do quite like Alaska as well, though objectively Scharnhorst is the superior battlecruiser.

What makes them good? If you don’t mind explaining?
Also, how does other 6.0 US ships compare to them?

Personally I like the Japanese bluewater fleet. They have some nice gems hidden, like Shimakaze, Akizuki and Tone, Suzuya and the premium Mikuma.

They have great torpedoes which are hard to master *in RB, but very satisfying when getting kills! Once you get the hang of their guns at longer ranges they are quite lethal. They are not brawlers, so better stay a bit back and engage from distance.
They do however lack a lot in AA!

They also have good torpedo aircraft (B6N-family) and a nice float plane (A6M2-N).

Else, I can agree with Vennem above! US ships have fantastic firepower! Atlanta is mentioned, I have talsimaned Cleveland and like it a lot. US also have great premiums in Helena and destoyers Moffet and Cowell if you can pick it up in a rare sale.
You will not go wrong with choosing US.

Good to hear that about the Japanese bluewater fleet, considering I am almost done with the tier 4 ships. So far, the tier 3 ships other than the Akizuki has been mediore.

The Kako is inaccurate and survivality looks more like a destroyer.

What guns would you consider “lethal” for the Japanese ships?

I used Yuudachi for grinding most of the tree until thei good cruisers back in the day, the 127mm are a very precise gun ( at least it was, havent played naval for quite soe time nownthough, so might have changed).

Their mid cruisers arent great, I can agree on that. Agano and Furutaka aren’t bad though.

Same with the 155 main cannons on Suzuya and Mikuma.

The gun layout on Tone gives you options for peekaboo’ing on islands and can often surprise enemies with a full unexpected barrage.
The 203mm on the heavy cruisers are also very precise.

Japan is probaly not everyone’s cup of tea though, since it does require a bit more passive playstyle compared to US, Germany and Soviet.

Actually, you now inspired me to pick up on naval again, thanks! :-)
For the emperor!

Sorry for typos, on mobile!

Pittsburgh has good survivability, speed and maneuverability with strong, reasonably quick 8-inch guns. Comparative to the others I’ve played - German and Japanese heavy cruisers, excellent as they are - I really like the overall balancing of the US cruiser and destroyer lines best (but their BBs suck, unfortunately.) As for Roanoke, it’s not as durable as Pittsburgh but it packs a real wallop with its rapid-fire 6-inchers that prints SL like crazy - very fun ship, once spaded.

I would definitely go through with researching bluewater US, and focus on reaching the USS Alaska.
That thing is very OP, and one of the only ships that can pick a fight with a Scharnhorst and actually has a chance of winning against it. Its ammo seems well protected and i never managed to one shot an Alaska, only beeing able to kill it by constantly shooting its engine room, having it permanently on fire and removing the crew slowly. Very survivable ship.

Don’t forget to claim the premium Akizuki-class, Hatsuzuki from WT Mobile!
Less AA than Akizuki, but the guns are excellent at their BR. Fast enough reload, good velocity. Just aim at US DD’s turrets first before hitting anything else.

Shimakaze is most excellent especially in Arcade battles (don’t knock it till you try it!) given she can reload her torpedoes. Her great speed allows her to get into positions quicker. Excellent for setting a spread at range, and actually feels better the higher up in BR you use it. BBs and cruisers are slow, so easier to predict and hit.

The earliest light cruisers in the Japan tree acted IRL as DD leaders of sorts, hence weaker than other nations’. (Agano looks cool, but alas too weak, Ooyodo would be great to have in-game!)

I’ve enjoyed using Mikuma (similar to the TT Suzuya) due to her better DPM than Mogami or Tone, though they are also very good heavy cruisers.

As for coastal, I too have finished the Japanese tree. The Type K-3 and K-7 duo have good armament that can easily deal damage to other boats. Chikugo is adequate at her BR, and a menace in a downtier. PG02s are a little squishy, but their speed and fire rate are great. The PT-15 is alright as well.

JDS Isuzu can hold her own against the DDs she faces, though take care not to get ganged up on. As for JDS Ayanami, her destroyer damage model, her DPM (ripple fire is best done), HE-VT and APHE makes for an amazing ship that can kill SKRs with relative ease, and be able to engage and damage US DDs.

uhh what ? lol

Thanks for info! Have to check if its still possible to get that ship!.Not really into mobile games but…and didnt play much naval after they changed the targeting mechanics and introduced the green aim dot.

Will definitely give it a go again! EC mode was enjoyable!

Took me like 3 or so short matches before I got the ship, no worries there

3 battles, 3 victories! Was actually a bit fun!

Didnt get a coupon for the ship though, so not sure if its obtainable anymore.

@Smin1080p_WT Can you tell if IJN Hatsuzuki is still available as reward for WT mobile, please?
I realise that I’m late for it ;-)

In terms of coastal, I can speak for Japan and France.

France coastal is not great. If you really just want to finish quickly, I guess it would be a good bet, but you will suffer while you do. There are fun vehicles in France Coastal like Arras and L9059 but they aren’t outstanding, all of the torpedo boats are pretty flawed. The VLTs in particular are glass cannons with no survivability. And La Combattante is a joke of a capstone. Maybe if they add its actual ASMs one day…

Japan coastal is pretty good. They have early and plentiful access to subchasers which let you bully torpedo boats, though their own torpedo boats are just mid. PG-02 can absolutely shred if you disable the autocannon modification and unlock the Vulcan’s fire rate, plus its high speed makes it a great zone capper.

My personal favorite so far has to be Chikugo. the twin 3 inch automatic annihilates torpedo boats and can overwhelm reserve destroyers, plus you get some decent torpedoes and an OK top speed for a frigate.

Of course, it goes without saying that the most powerful Coastal tree at top tier is USSR, but Japan does ok!

US bluewater and coastal are some of the best vehicles in the game, the heavy cruisers for US tend to face a lot of battleships due to the BR but they are still very good. As for coastal its probably the best, balanced tree in my opinion, Russia is full of OP vehicles if you want an easier time of it though and they do have the biggest cancer in the game… the SKR7 which if your after frigates this is the tree to work on.

As for French coastal the first few ranks are very poor. In fact at least 4 of the boats are literally the same. However, the later vessels are fairly good but the reason to race up the French tree is to get that bonus for the other trees not to really use the tree for anything else.

Japans cruisers are ok but better as torp spammers, they get outgunned by the US ships pretty much but the later heavies are strong.

The Mississippi BB has the best APHE in the whole Game if I am not mistaken. 714mm of pen point blank. But ofc it is gatekept and over 80 bucks on the market already. Pay to win?

Well… A ship that could be acquired for free if you got it in the event isnt exactly a P2W ship. But Gaijin does have a bad habbit of only adding good ships via events, like HMS Renown and HMS Barham

If we had proper Rerun Events then I could agree with this quote. But when a vehicle is only obtainable again through paying Money, then it is kinda p2w for everyone who doesn’t have the content.
