Hi there…the AESA typhoons and Gripen E carry the Aim 120Bs and c5s… while having amazing sensor suites like the rwr and the radar that can still track and guide missiles to a target while in a notch with is an awesome ability enjoyed by a few planes i.e. the su30sm2
With the recent buffs to fox 3 missiles i found myself thinking while playing the sm2 how much more dangerous the E2Ks would be if they could fire while in the notch like the sm2 does but the aim 120 c-5 doesn’t have the capability to do so.
In some other jets like the Rafale, Mig 35, J10c j15 j16 and even the Golden eagle you can fire from the notch…for the golden eagle ik you are thinking how but it carries aim 120Ds which you can launch from a Mem Lock…How you achieve this (my main mode is air sim so duels/1v1 missile joust happen a lot unless you get swarmed) is by putting the guy you wanna fire on in (SINGLE TRACK MODE) simply lock them up and turn into a notch and fire when it goes into mem lock and you’d essentially be firing while in a notch i assume the same applies to chinise planes that carry the PL10a
For the rafale and Mig 35 its the same process but this time you can use your IRST to lock targets that are 90 degrees right/left then switch back to a PD track which will automatically go back to being a MEM lock and you can fire your mica or r77-1 while notched…before you could do this same strat with the ef2ks but the irst gimbals were reduced and you could give dl to missiles you had previously launched (not from a notch )
The only difference between the Gripen/E2ks from all the planes i mentioned above is that they all carry missiles that have launched limits removed (r77-1 aim 120D mica pl10A)
So my question to you is should the E2Ks get a variant of the aim 120 with launch limits removed or no…would it be too Overpowered
I mean if gaijin actually fixes the Gripens problems like Skyward not being implemented at all you would also be able to use it just like the Rafale and lock while in a notch with your IRST and swap back to your radar.
Realistically I don’t see these changes doing anything for the Gripen then giving gaijin another reason to send it up.
in the current meta being in a russian plane with large cal countermeasures is better while sitting in a notch than being in a gripen / ef2k with bod pods…i have seen my last chaff , just one confuse a mica…you have more missiles and better cms
The only thing holding them back after the missile buffs is the gimbal limit, you have to turn in significantly towards the enemy to get your missile off while others can fire beyond 110°
Honestly I’m indifferent to either or, I like both since I have both but I’m also all to accustomed to getting screwed in air by gaijin playing Sweden, I see any change like this as a chance for them to make the Gripen worse off.
I have no interest in a buff that more than likely screws the vehicle over in BR permanently.
And at 14.7 it becomes even less likely to get a downtier, different vehicles on nations get different match makers on average.
It’s why a small BR change like .3 brought the Klimi from being a DOA vehicle to being useful. 14.3 gets to feed on the 13.3 Su-30 prems quite often, not as much as when it was 14.0 and got all the 13.0 prems but still a partial downtier is more common than a full downtier.
