Every match in these modes basically boils down to whatever team has a numbers advantage, not much else matters.
ARB matches 80% of the time, after the merge whatever team has more players will win. When its 16v16, then 1 minute after the merge its 10v14 your team is just cooked, those 4 extra players end up dogpiling on your team and it snowballs out of control. If your team is winning you are just fighting your team for the last few kills before the match ends, if your team is losing you have 2-3 players chasing you down and your only option is a suicide run on one of them then dying shortly after. Theres some situations where you can deal with 1vX in something like a f104 in a downtier but in most cases you are just boned.
GRB is pretty much the same thing, whatever team loses the most players first loses, doesn’t matter how hard you are winning at the start, you can have all 3 caps and be spawn camping the other team but if the other team somehow gains a significant numbers advantage your team is just going to lose 90% of the time. It’s too hard to control space when you are down players and most games are just 3cp so doesn’t really matter how well you are doing personally on kills the other team is gonna cap the points and you’ll lose on ticket bleed even if you are killing them unless you get a nuke.
IDK what exactly can be done, but there needs to be some kind of EC mode for both of these, or some kind of mode that actually places expectation on the players to stick around for the entire match. With how things are now its just mindnumbing sometimes. There’s nothing more lame than playing ARB looking at the scoreboard 2-3 minutes in seeing the other team has double your numbers and shortly after seeing 3-4 players just B-lining for you, or playing GRB in the same situation.
I love GRB. But I believe he’s referring to games ending way before they should because of selfish players refusing to field and use a lineup. Games should be decided because one side used superior tactics, instead of winning by default because the enemy team evaporates after a single death. Though, I guess not one death leaving is a superior tactic in itself, so meh.
Just find a BR / lineup you enjoy and stick to it. For example, I love playing USSR 9.0 / 9.3 in GRB. Lineups full of interesting vehicles, one death leavers are at a minimum, lots of dedicated players playing that BR for fun. USA? 6.7 is fun as can be. Britain? Can’t go past 8.3, it’s a ball of fun.
jokes aside, its clear the issue boils down to ODL.
what can be done? either try to positively motivate ground players, for example by better rewards tied to spawning more and staying in game longer, or motivate them negatively - but that will provoke a reaction from the ODL playerbase.
Spoiler
and by this point i really dont care about ODLs. If they are motivated negatively, ie. by some sort of punihsment and they stop playing the game altogether, good. problem is getting fixed either way.
