I was recently looking thru some ammo options for a few Soviet tanks and I found that for the cold war BRs the performance on paper of APDS and APFSDS are quite similar. Which is better? Should I still prioritize grinding out the APFSDS when the stock APDS has similar stats?
APFSDS is better and more modern
3BM25 is not better than 3BM8, worse damage and same pen
As @MeanBROSofD72805 mentioned a good example, common in T-55 main battle tanks you have at your choice 3BM8 (APDS) and 3BM25 (APDSFS) which overall may look the same and performe the same (and most of the time is) the only greater difference is angled performance which you don’t encounter much. As their performance it’s very similar, I’d suggest trying out a few matches with one and another then deciding which fits best to your playstyle.
Apdsfs obviusly
If APFSDS is an option, always shoot for it, it’s more stable, faster, and tends to have better angular pen.
Being a Sweden enjoyer, the 7.0-8.7 range of 105mm’s with APDS I’m used to APDS, but APFSDS will always be a more favorable round.
3BM25 APFSDS for highly angled armour, 3BM8 APDS for flatter. The 3BM25 becomes more efficient at penning and less likely to bounce at angles of around 50 to 55deg.
I usually use the 2BM25 as my main round and carry a few HEAT-FS for light tanks and anything the APFSDS cant pen.
