Anyone Else Having Main Gun/Cannon Issues In Air?

Is anyone else having issues with the main guns/cannons today?

Mine seem to be acting a little “off” today.

Some aircraft, the guns aren’t working at all. A good example for me is the AV-8B (NA).

On others, the only way they work is if you use the deselect weapons button. There are two confusing things about this.

First, unless I’m mistaken, that is the opposite of how they previously worked, I never remember having to deselect the weapons before yesterday.

And secondly, on the in game HUD you have the weapons listed and a “carrot” besides what weapons are selected. When you select the weapons the carrot is beside the weapon selected and the cannons, and when you “deselect” the weapons the carrot disappears from beside the cannons. This seems contradictory, illogical, and not what I think I’m used to.

Am I the only one having this issue?

You can fire guns in 2 ways

“Fire primary weapons”

And

“Fire guns/canons” (both combined and separately)

Fire primary weapons only works with weapon selection enabled and is the method I personally use. They may have changed it so that the other method does not work with weapon selection enabled for some reason,.but it’s not in the change log

My trigger is bound to small and large caliber guns but is only working as described in my initial post, and some are not working at all.

I may switch to “fire primary weapons” as you prefer and see if that makes any difference.

I noticed the issue in my last match I went to fire my guns and they would not work. I had just swapped a custom loadout and thought I forgot to add the guns (it was the AV-8B) but later I looked and confirmed they were mounted.

Then I went to the test server and found how some were working and some weren’t.

I’ll have a play later this evening and see if I can replicate the issue at all.

There was an update today, so something might have been broken intentional or unintentionally

I’m not sure if the update caused the issue or if it is just me and not binding things correctly. I will say that as of today things are working differently than they were previously without me touching the gun key bindings.

That being said, I switch my trigger binding to “fire primary weapons” and it is now working as intended. And to be honest I like this method better. As you get into the later, more modern aircraft, you don’t has as many rounds and I like the ability to be able to “deselect” my main guns.

So this should work out for me.

Yeah, that is my main reason for using it, I can use it like a safety switch.

And yeah, it’s useful on something like the spitfire having both bound, but for anything above those props, it’s usually a waste of a keybind

Cool.

Thanks for the responses and I really appreciate the feedback.

Super helpful!

So just tested it out.

Trying “Small-Calibre Guns” / “Large Calibre Guns” or “Fire (Machine Guns / Canons)” with and without weapon selector worked fine, and always fired.

“Fire Primary weapons” worked as expected and only functioned with weapon selector on.

So im not entirely sure what is up and why you were encountering issues, but at least switching to “fire Primary weapons” seemed to have resolved the issue

Got it, thanks.

It may be something I’m doing.

I have another issue as well that I can’t seem to get to the bottom of, maybe its just me or my key bindings.

What Issue, I may have a solution for that too?

I’m having an issue with the TV Scope in the F-5E.

When using the TV Guided Mavs I cannot center the crosshair.

It seems to always be stuck in the bottom left hand or right hand corner like this.

I’ve tried every way I know to center/recenter the crosshairs but nothing works.

I’ve tried pointing the reticle at the target and hitting bot “Weapon lock (air-to-ground)” and the “sight stabilization” and neither works.

Not at least from the cockpit anyway.

I can get it to work sometimes in external view but nothing I do can center the crosshair from the cockpit, and since I use the F-5E pretty much exclusively for Sim it is really a detriment to my game play.

You dont by any chance have something like an Xbox controller or HOTAS plugged in and that is imputting some control imput? (assuming you are on PC)

You can also try using “activate target point” or “Sight stabilization” control which when used will create a "CCRP target point " which your seeker will lock onto and then you can adjust the position from there. Just point your nose/cursor at the rough location you want to fire at and then press either keybind

Edit: missed where you said you had tried sight stabilization already :P

I didn’t even think about the controller. Yeah I do have one but I checked its not connected.

And I cannot get it to create a CCRP Target Point.

I’ve tried “activate target point”, “sight stabilization”, and even “weapons lock (air to ground)” and none of them work, not in the cockpit anyway.

The crazy think about it is that it’s just on the F-5E.

Because it was on sale, I bought the F-20 just to test it to see. I used the same TV Guided weapon, 65Bs and it worked just fine, just as you are describing. But when I use the F-5E the curser is stuck in the bottom corner just as the pic that I posted.

Hmmmmmm…

I honestly have no idea.

and I dont have the F-5E so I cant test it myself.

Its strange it works on other aircraft but not the F-5E

Try just verifying the install?

One thing I just noticed is that my mouse will move the crosshairs in the TV Scope view.

I wonder if that has anything to do with it and how do I disable that?

The mouse is how I aim TV guided weapons.

but im not sure on specific settings and youd think if it was a control imput issue, it would do it on all aircraft and not just the F-5E

In Sim battles?

do you assign the lock and fire button to your mousse also so your aren’t going back and forth between you mouse and stick while in the scope view?

Yes. I can also aim something like a tpod via my HOTAS if I want to, but for better accuracy I also have my mouse set up for the main controls for Tpod operation and firing certain weapons. And that works too for TV guided weapons

So:

Ctrl+LMB for activate stabilisation
Ctrl+RMB for deactivate stabilisation
MMB for laser toggle
LMB for “fire air-to-ground missile” and “drop guided bomb”

That way I can aim and fire whatever im using via the mouse.

Seems to work quite well

seems like a pretty good idea.

I’m setting it up now.

My problem with using my HOTAS is that for the life of me I cannot set up the sensitivity on my analog stick to be able expediently and accurately use the curser.

I use the same stick for the radar and it works perfectly but the curser/crosshair in the TV and TPOD are too sensitive regardless of what I do.

I never thought of using the mouse so I think I will give it a TRY.
