[DEV] F16CM, F16CM PoBIT AN/ASQ - 213 missing functionality

There’s a lack of any other general thread on Anti-Radiation missiles for history, technical performance, and discussion, so possibly this thread may be useful. For some reason, it has gone completely radio silent for multiple weeks, even when the update adding ARMs had newly released, so somebody tell me if I’m missing something here. There’s nothing on the dev server category, not much on the official ARMs announcement post, and no such topic in game discussion either。

When it comes to this stuff, brochures need to be read with a degree of understanding. GPS grade of accuracy depends on many things and is commonly untrue. Your ESM may provide GPS level of accuracy, but in certain conditions which are related to aircraft receiver installation, band and distance. In practice, ESM rarely ever provides GPS grade of accuracy against ground radars…maybe against Jband, very up close, deadly up close, but other than that, no. Well, except for JSTARS and such, but we don’t have those in game.

I understand that the ESM screen in most aircraft is provided by the anti radiation missiles themselves, but why is the scanning speed so slow? It’s not because they are scanning several frequencies, because the RWR can do it instantly. It’s not realism either because the scanning area in the esm screen is much smaller than the scanning amplitude available to the seeker head itself.

It’s not instantly. RWR does pick up the signal instantly, but it takes time to process and evaluate the signal before presenting it to the pilot.

And thats why for Russian and Chinese they have a 0.5s period for there seeker, while NATO isnt even allowed to get a working ESM Pod for the F-16CM, from Build in ESM we better dont even start talking…
Build in ESM/ELS out of my Head: Rafale/Eurofighter/Tornado IDS SLE, yet neither has it for some unknown reason in game…

Most RWR’s pick up signals instantly in a wide frequency band and in a 360º azimuth coverage, and take a few seconds at most to evaluate the signal and present it to the pilot. I understand ARM seekers are naturally slower as they have much greater angular resolution/precision, have to seek both in azimuth and in elevation, and most of the ingame ones use mechanically oriented antennas, but the current scanning speed they have in game is still extremely slow (at least 20 to 30 seconds for a full scan cycle for agm 88 and armat, for example) while covering a much narrower sector than the seeker itself in game can do (ex, agm 88 esm screen shows a 30º azimuth sector while the missile itself can seek 100º in flight). Unless we are talking about an agm-45 shrike missile, this is neither realistic or balanced - the agm-78B already covered more, for example. (70º elevation and 70º azimuth)


And the most recent radar warning systems are capable of designating targets for the missiles, so planes like rafale and eurofighter should have 360º esm screens with near instant scan rates.

For comparison, Tornado SLE should only have forward looking ESM with nearly instant update rate as the Sensors are mounted angled in the frontal Wing root

What!? You tested it? It takes 20sec from the radar getting turned on, to the ESM displaying it??

A quick test with the armat shows that it takes 11 seconds for the seeker to complete a full scan of 30º azimuth and 15º elevation, but note that the radar sources appear and disappear even though they remain on and within the scan area, meaning you might need a few cycles to get a lock.

For comparison, in scan mode the real life armat had 90º field of view, at the very least.

with the nuke thunder being a thing, shouldnt there be AGM-88G or ER version of harm? the C variant is just too weak and has less quantity compared to chinese and russian counterpart.

Tbf, it woukd be even a good start to NATO to recieve finally there build in ESM so they dont need to rely on the HARM sensor, because currently only Russia/China have that

would also be nice to have a reasonable scan rate on the ESM because right now there isnt much point using it with HARM

Should have been present. But mmw seeker, gaijin won’t model it. If you want it modeled, fight for mmw seekers to be added.

The scan speed comes from on-board ESM on planes, currently NATO scan speed is that slow because they use the HARM instead of there own sensor

not quite because the HTS pod does have its own sensor but it is still just as slow of scanning

Because its not properly working, ob dev it was working but broke on live…
Afaik the pod is even worse than the HARM itself

The HTS pod should have a far wider FoR, but worse range, on the order of +/-90, to +/-120 degrees. But since one of the sources aren’t sufficient since “it isn’t an original production,” but a online archive of the article it doesn’t meet gaijin’s criteria to even count as secondary.

They expect me to be able to physically source a magazine issue that was printed more than 50 years ago, and had a print run on the order of the 10s of hundreds and circulated as a niche magazine that was subscription only.

Instead of the easily accessible online archive of articles hosted by the author which was arbitrarily discarded without explanation.

The volunteer accepted the magazine as a secondary source, the problem is that he rejected the ausairpower online article as a secondary source, as he needs 2 of them. It’s a problem because the online article is a reproduction of a 1998 magazine article, has a clear author, and goes into far too great detail (with diagrams) to be seen as anything but an expert opinion, at the very least.
