Anti-Radiation Missiles - Technical data and discussion

Thanks to @Saprano_2132 the spreadsheet in the main post of this thread has now been updated for the latest game version.

If anyone has information on the radar band coverage of ARMs not currently in the spreadsheet, then please do share that information here.

I think the AGM-78 still needs to be updated as per;

As such on the Spreadsheet the AGM-78A should additionally be able to track the SAG MPDR-16 (Roland SAM) radar as it is in the NATO D band.

And the Digital AGM-78(B, -C &-D variants) are effectively similar to the AGM-88C/D listing as no C band radars are implemented.

@Flame2512 For some reason spreadsheet have mistakes when early harm can attack some radar, and later one can’t. For example CLAWS TADS

Yeah something strange is going on there. I will have to investigate

It’s not a primary source, but i’ve found this italian blog with some detailed specifications on the AGM-78 and the AGM-88, which might be useful without any other concrete sources.

AGM-78A/B/C: Gross weight 627kg, Aerodjet mk.27, 6804 kg.f of thrust in the 4 second boost phase, 907 kg.f of thrust for the 22 second sustainer phase (thus a total impulse 462 737 N.s ?), missile speed at burnout mach 1,8, range 56 km (perhaps sea level?)

AGM-78D: Gross weight 748 kg (other sites have quoted 615 kg though) Aerodjet Mk-69 Mod 0, total impulse 54432 kg (533 978 N.s or 120 000 lb.s), maximum range 112 km.

AGM-78A:Operating band NATO E/F (like shrike)
AGM-78B:Maxim broadband sensor, NATO E/F/G/I
AGM-78C:Bendix broadband sensor, NATO E/F/G/I
AGM-78D:General dynamics broadband sensor, 2 to 10 GHz (E to I)

I’ll take it over here, ALARM did get used, many were fired in Op Granby

The issue I see is Gaijin going

“No, its unfair that so many ALARM can be carried, therefore you will use AGM-88 instead”

Do you have any suggestions on it or something where i want to know more about it.

Bacause if its weaker and has less range than range than the agm88, surly gaijin will give more than 6.

This thread is probably the best for that, scroll to the first post

But TLDR version iirc.

Less range (though, still got more than enough) and a little slower, but has a loiter mode (That I doubt will be modeled) where ite deploys a parachute above the targets last known position if the radar is turned off and waits for a few minutes for the radar to turn back on again

and the Tonka can in-theory carry 9 :P

i dont see where unless they take it instead of the CM pods

so i did my little reading session.

its quite nice and fast. only downside is maybe the range.

would be better to give it to eft rather than other strike plane ( except tornado ). i am sure that would quite increase the range of it and become quite powerful and be the same level as the other. also double boster is op while the other have a sustainer one. also no way they gonna model the parachute mode, thats just unfair.

3 on the belly.

2 in place of the fuel tanks

2 in place of AAMs

2 on extra pylons on the outer shoulder (where the extra Aim9s are on the F3)

That extra pylons is actually modeled already on the IDS in game, but disabled for obvious reasons,.only used for ALARM as far as I am aware. It is also what I’d be most excited for as it can mean 2x ALARM no matter the existing loadout

tornado-alarm-1

7x ALARM fitted, all but AAM mounted

images (2)

4x ALARM fitted, can see in place of AAMs

I think range is gunna be irrelevant here.

At most, I don’t think they’ll be usable past 30km, given that is the current cap on tpods

  • Speed
  • what radars it’s effective against
  • what form of counter to switching the radar off (loiter, iog, etc)
  • quantity

Those will decide which is best

if we get arms, we surely get a longer new map.

I’m seriously doubting it.

KH-59 can hit cross map in ASB and we don’t even get bigger maps

no it dont. its limited to the seeker.

not to forget stupid gaijin broke ir guideness for anti ship who will make the missile above rather than center.

Right… And why would ARM be any different?

wont.

but if you die to a kh59 in a sam who is launched at like 100km.
thats a big issue.

Since I’m not that much of a knower when it comes to sim, curious how that really effects things? Since yeah it can lock the ground up to ~120km out, but then what?

It’ll just be slowly gliding towards some bomb target ig.

Like yeah hypothetically you could get a good 100km out of most glide munitions in game rn, but how far is that really gonna get you in the grand scheme of things?

It’s not at the moment, the warheads are too small, but Grom 1 were removed because they were being spammed on the dev server cross map and destroying bases.

Cruise missile have been denied because of the same issue.

But the point is, If.KH38, KH59, etc etc can exist on current maps, then ARMs won’t suddenly change that

lets not forget the fakour and aim54 spam.

even myself was launch spawn camp at 64km and still get arounf 46 kills.
