AMX-30B2 Could be 8.3?

one, this is very much a m4 sherman vs panzer 4h debate all over again, at the end of the day between a stab vehicle vs an non stab vehicle, the stab is gonna win 90% of the time, the ONLY time they dont, is if its an ambush.

two, LRF is only needed when firing at extreme ranges where tiny changes are needed to get an accurate shot, the t55a doesnt even have a round that can do this so not having one is a non-issue, because youre never gonna snipe in the t55a, youre never gonna need a lrf in the first place.

third, its gen 1 thermals. technically its better than not having one, but its only useful early game when the map isnt covered with wrecks that give you false positives, and when the forests arent fully there, and the weather is bad enough where seeing brightly light up tanks become an issue. so like 15% of the time theyre useful.

four, the french smokes are set up in an assault smoke layout, as in it covers your sides and not your direct front. making them completely pointless in warthunder because well, that type of doctrine isnt really practical, and the fact theyre designed to be fired a hundred meters infront of the tank doesnt help things either.

oh and the final nail in the coffin for this argument, the m48a2ga2 exists at 8.3, its only lacking the thermals and speed of the amx 30, and no one bitches about that thing being overpowered now do they. also forgot the chinese 8.3 which is an t55a with the same round the ga2 gets. no one bitches about that thing being overpowered for 8.3, mostly because people forget that thing exists.

M48A2G but with LRF, thermals, 20mm, higher penetration, much higher mobility, and superior gun handling, all at the same BR? Yeah probably not.

Imagine if this was true

Pradesh, Maginot line, Fields of Poland, European province are pretty common maps where things like a Ikv 91, Pzh 2000, VIDAR, T-69 IIA/Type 59A and such will smack you up

Because it’s just an M48, which is worse than AMX-30B2 in almost every way, like literally the effective thickness of the lfp is 110mm and can straight up be penned by a T-34-85

Beside having no stab, it has a pretty good optic at 10x gunner magnification, while every one else at 8.7 has 8x and having no thermals. The other underrated 8.7s imo are the Magachs, they are so strong yet nobody ever talks about them.

man firs look other tanks for example leopard 1 is 8.0 or leopard 1a1 is 9.0 and no have thermal , laser ragnefinder, 20mm MG and protection the BRENUS clearly need up in br and other fine in 8.7 only downside no gun stabilization…

Yeah It’s an issue but I’d rather not have the better round (ERA needs to be fixed though) and stay at the BR than gett the better round and make the BRENUS even worse to play

Why do people keep bringing this up it’s pretty much useless

Which is literally no different than the 30B2 and BRENUS.

The brenus with the ofl 105 G2/3 and the fixed era it would be pretty solid at 9.0, the era should give around 100mm of ke protection and 700 ce and the 20 mm can be buff by adding apds and apfsds if needed,

The 20 can be buffed by giving it AP or APIT or something similar. No need for APDS or APDSFS we just need shells that don’t shatter on ZSU-23 sides.

There is still the issue of the bottom part of the hull without ERA and I don’t really want an unstabilised tank at 9.0 (just personal opinion after playing both the B2 variants extensivery)

what is with dm23?

The developers could add some kind of soft brake so the gun doesn’t sway so much. A friend tried War Thunder with a steering wheel and pedals, and he told me that with the foot brake it seemed like all the tanks had stabilizers, since you braked so gently that the gun barely moved.

Maybe I just need to figure out a way to add analog braking to my setup then. The harsh brakes really do a number on the stability I agree

I’m currently playing with the AMX-10M and the AMX-50 (120mm), and I have to admit that their suspension is awful, to the point that it’s the biggest obstacle to playing these tanks properly.

I remember that the M18 Hellcat had a normal suspension, but they later changed it, making it much softer. This makes me think that the suspension roll is some kind of hidden roll the developers use to keep tanks in the battle classes they want. That’s why I think the Brenus won’t receive any upgrades at all, because the developers don’t want France to have another BR 9.3.

The 10M has a bad suspension yeah but the Surbaissse actually just suffers from oscillating turret. THe momentum of that and the way aiming works in game fucks up everything when you are stopping.

I don’t think it would go to 9.3 even with the upgrades. Maybe with the best round but adding that would actively make the tank worse since it’s still not stabilised and at 9.3 that is a must have.

really on a fast mobile tanks, those fractions of a second you need to wait for a stable sight picture, against a fully stabilised opponent: you’re dead.

Is this bad or good?

Yes!!

Well the T-55A has a full STAB and APFSDS but no modern systems such as Laser-Rangefinders or Thermals. I personally think the AMX-30B2 should be 8.0-8.3
