American Tiger: History of Northrop F-5

Don't forget - you can now activate video subtitles!

Aircraft are incredibly expensive to build. Not every country can afford to design, manufacture and maintain their own fleet of warplanes, especially if it wants to be always on top of its game. But what can you do if you're in constant need of new aircraft but lack the funds to regularly purchase the latest models on the market? Northrop Corporation faced this challenge and, as time has shown, found a highly successful solution.

F-5 is one of my most favorite planes ever. The designer was a man of genious, maybe deserving a “Pages of History” PP someday?

Though I regret very much I missed out on the Mig-28 camo, when I was just returning to WT after 2 year long pause right at the release of that update. Oh well…

I know sure as heck Shin Kazama gonna show up here xD

The most powerful versions of the F-5 are missing in the game, the Chilean F-5E Tiger III Plus, the Brazilian F-5EM and the Thai F-5TH Super Tigris. The one from Chile goes to Israel, the Brazilian one goes to Italy and the Thai one goes to Japan.

Why can’t one go to America

But italy already 2 nations sub tree (Hungary & Romania).

Italy don’t want third sub tree (Brazilian)

Might not surprised chilean sub tree for israel in the future

Now 1 F-5 only. F-5TH for japan some day

Some could go but the countries I mentioned need those F-5s more than the United States, plus Thailand is present in Japan, Brazil is already in Italy and Chile will possibly go to Israel taking into account that it was Israel that modified the Chilean F-5

I suppose that the Brazilian F-5 is the one that could go to the United States, but we will have to wait to see what Gaijin will do with Brazil since they have a lot to offer the game

For me, italy have 2 nations sub tree it’s enough. and don’t want brazil 3rd sub tree

Next aircraft premium pre-order pack for USA in rank 8 after F-20A Tigershark would be domestic USAF & USN aircraft in the future. but not export for other operators

Lockheed approaches with Starfighter behind the back.

It doesn’t have to be a sub tree, Canada isn’t a sub tree and they have many vehicles across a few nations so it would be fine to go to Italy. Also Italy will only get the eurofighter for a while and they might need something to spice up their top tier.

Yeah, but the US is the one the F-5s came from not Japan or Italy. (The chile one kinda make sense but listening 3 would be cool for USA)

While that is true, Japan has already gotten one Thai F-5. It would only be logical to give the others to it, and the JPN air tree needs them.

No, they don’t, jpn air tree is good at upper tiers now

*tier

Tier 8 is good, and that’s about all. Even then, half the aircraft there are in a pretty bad state right now…

F-4EJ Kai is the same tier as the new F-14 with Fakour 90s. Lol.
F-16AJ is the same BR as all the 9m/7f slingers… But only gets 9Ls
F-15J is alright at best, but gets constant uptiers to see aircraft that are better than it in every way.
F-15J(M) is an AMRAAM bus that can pull some pretty decent maneuvers. AAM-4s are neat, but a bit niche.

The only one of these with guided munitions is the F-16AJ.

Meanwhile, below that, you have:

F-4EJ/ADTW. Steaming pile of trash.
T-2/F-1/F-104: Fast, can’t really turn well (more so the 104), but no countermeasures.
F-86Fs: Meh?
Ki-200: WW2 rocket plane at 8.7, lmao
R2Y2s: WW2 jets at 8.0, bad.
Kikka: WW2 jet that gets vastly outperformed in every metric by the SU-11 a mere .3 above it

Most of these frankly aren’t very good for CAS, either.

Everything you just said except the EJ Kai, ki200, and r2y2 applies to USA

The USA doesn’t have one bad plane as the entirety of their rank VII, either

And the WW2 jet they get (P-59) is at 5.7

  1. F-4C, F-105
  2. It’s slower than some props, and has no crazy advantage over props at BR

Those aren’t the entirety of what the US gets to grind rank 8 with, though. Japan only has one rank 7 plane, and it’s horrid.

IT CAN OUTTURN ZEROES

A single redeeming feature on a very rare and expensive event plane. Not a huge impact
