I ran into this problem after the update. I can’t even imagine what the problem might be. I think you’re right that the problem is in the game.
Same here. After update alt+tab is 50% freezing.
same here game hard freezing after this update
Same here, 5800X3D and RX7800XT, it’s a 50/50 chance of it hard freezes when I tab out since yesterday
From what I can tell its related to DX12. I have a similar issue where in DX12 if I alt tab the game stay running but it looks frozen and then it will all of a sudden catch up to where it should be. I managed to cause a hard crash by alt tabbing rapidly.
On DX11 no such issue.
I physically cannot make it happen on DX11, on DX12 I can essentially make the issue happen on command.
I am currently testing other DX12 games and having no such issues so it is totally related to Warthunder and therefore it is on Gaijins end.
Just to test it to the extreme and I went around in multiple games spamming alt tab as fast as I could, even in some cases with windows across monitors at different refresh rates and resolutions just to make it more awkward, all were DX12 games and I even made sure they were games that would push my GPU to its limit and I got nothing.
This is a WT issue.
I even went to the extreme of tabbing between separate games that both were running in DX12 and nothing would happen.
I made sure every driver was updated to the newest ones, first match hard freeze 10 seconds into a match.
If I disable DX12 and go back to 11 the crashes stop
AMD pushed this today so if you’ve got a AMD 6000 series card update and see if it helps.

Fixed Issues and Improvements
Intermittent system or application crash may be observed while pressing Alt-Tab during gameplay on some AMD Radeon™ Graphics Products such as the Radeon™ RX 6000 Series.
nope, its an optional patch you have to download and install manually and it changed nothing, still hard freezing during alt tabs
I had an nVidia freeze and crash the client today with an alt-tab… But it was a terribly messy alt-tab.
It sent a crash report.
Have a 7900XTX, haven’t had any issues until recently, and it’s 100% something WT introduced in a recent update
People say DX11 does not crash. I crash all the time on DX11 when alt tabbing.
Game freezes, audio just loops.
Reflex on/off
DLSS on/off
frame cap on/off
background cap on/off
Yes it’s exactly the same for me
This is becoming ludicrous to be honest. It is 100% on the game.
ULQ on/off
reflex on/off
fps cap on/off
g-sync on/off
etc
I got the same issue. Besides, I also have the problem on browser interface freezing after using ALT TAB. I find that it is associated with MPO in WIN11 24H2. After deactivating it, the issue is gone. Maybe you guys could have a try on this:
Win11 24H2: Fullscreen videos are freezing in all browsers, while - Microsoft Community
Same issue. Me and my friends also suffered from this issue for over a year. Someone mentioned DX12 or Windows 11. But I’m using DX11 and Windows 10. Also, I reinstall the Windows 10 but the issue still exists. My specs are 7800X3D 4070ti 32G RAM Windows10. But my friend’s specs are pretty different.
Windows 11 is not the bug. I’m using Windows 10 but still have the same issue.
Hey there folks!
I might have the solution for some of you as the issue disappeared for me.
It’s HDR! (at least for me)
try the following options:
- enable HDR in War Thunder (Options > Graphics, way at the bottom) - that did it for me.
since the issue seems to be HDR, the next option might work as well, but that’s just my guess
- disable Auto-HDR in Windows 11 (Windows-Button + I to open up the settings and simply type HDR in the search bar. head into the graphics settings and turn off Auto-HDR)
Hope this helps someone, good luck and godspeed!
Thanks, but doesn’t work for me. We might have different problems.
Strangely enough, it often freezes when I do alt-tab while loading.
Whether it is the loading screen before the match starts, or in the middle of loading the terrain in the back right after the battle starts, etc.
I wonder if this has something to do with it.
I wondered why EasyAntiCheat and BattleEye were in the folder at the same time, so I deleted them both from the folder directly after launching the game, and the freezing stopped happening.
Of course, the next time I start the game, it reinstalls them and I have to remove them again…
