There was the same clickable minimap (as in battle) in the moments:

  • right after a vehicle being lost and before enemy shell shoot animation
  • right after shell fly animation and before the spawn pick up screen

So you you was able (technically) to ping instantly, despite it was a bit quick-timy.

Ah, I thought you have on mind time, when you can select vehicle to spawn :)

You can’t spam pings on the map because you get timed out instantly, you can’t write it out either because you again, get timed out.
Don’t see why anyone would want to play commander, it’s an even worse option of using scout drones and you also get zero reward for doing it, so that doesn’t seem like a strong argument.

Don’t know why this feature was removed, for all these years I marked the enemy after death and now that is no longer an option.
