Not that hard to aim at a target going 300 knots
The F-5 gets a High ROF in 2 guns mounted nicely in the nose.

Yeah that’s fair, but it’s a widely used fighter and trainer for a reason
yes, wasnt ever denying it is. but its still overperforming in its turn and gets an unfair advantage in how thermal signature is done in the game.
But they are dinky 20mm, even on F-8 with 4 of them I still get slightly inconsistent damage
I don’t have F-5 btw, I’m speaking from fighting them
Yeah it was cheap lol. And easy to maintain
The F8 and F-5s guns are different I believe
I can check stats in a bit. but afaik they have identical or near identical performance
F-5 is touchable if the pilot is far worse than you.
Simply and only down to low USA pilot skill, the plane itself is untouchable when flown correctly
so we forgetting the broken japan F-5’s with python 3’s?
As well as AGM-65
yeah they are pretty insane
checked, your right, individual gun RoF is better on F-5. however combined rate of fire is better on the F-8, so it would still be less damaging than the F-8
@MatrixRupture you know anything about F-8 performance? was regarded as very good dogfighter in Vietnam
Yes it was one of the only true gunfighters the US had in that timeframe.
in fact the f8 is often called “last gun fighter”
Yes while everyone was being taught long range BVR missiles for the Phantom the F-8 pilots where training ACM to get into rear aspect for the sidewinder and cannons.
So when the brass was wrong and dogfighting was indeed not outdated the F-8 managed to hold its own much better with a K/D of around 6/1, but only achieved 18-19 kills.
It was still outclassed by the MiG-17 but not nearly as bad as the F-4
well, it had pretty limited service
Was out of style by than regardless.
