yeah and the person I was replying to was claiming that it was v3 so not relevant despite being v2 or at least having v2 armor
Well, he is wrong and you are right. I thought you were implying that Sepv3 has the same armor as sepv2, my bad.
This is incorrect. My friend works with the SEPv3 and was the one to show me the difference in turret shape.
The SEPv3 is much bulkier turret-wise than the SEPv2, which leads to the turret ring being hidden more than in previous models.
congrats, its actually pretty rare seeing someone back up info with sources and its nice to see that even once in a while, also yeah it does seem a lot bulkier, any data regarding on how much thickness does it add?
Currently there are no open sources, although I suspect around 200 - 300 for hull. Turret wise IDK what is even the point, not like the ABRAMs turret can’t tank most ATGMs anyway and there is also the trophy. Also don’t know quite how heavy they are.
Unfortunately, there are no values out there, at least unclassified ones regarding how much armor it offers. What I did find was this little bit of info regarding what they were aiming for when developing the armor, as seen in the image. They mention realistic and emerging threats. I personally believe things like the t14 and other high pen threats were definitely on the drawing board when they developed the armor.
There is also someone who made an estimate of what the turret armor could offer based on weight increases over the years with different versions of the Abrams. https://forum.warthunder.com/t/m1a2-sep-v3/80241/303
I do enjoy seeing people wanting the SEP V3 so much when they forget it weighs 74 tons… It would be worse than the SEP V2 (Not to say that thing is bad)
I would be fine with that weight if Gaijin gave the improved armor and made it actually a worthwhile upgrade (you know they take some creative liberties when implementing top tier MBTs).
Problem with the SEPv2 is that it increases weight and offers no worthwhile upgrade over the SEPv1 in WT.
66.8 metric tons, so not that much heavier than a SEP v2.
It does quickly start to add up if there’s options for 2.2 ton Trophy, 1.16 ton ARAT I or 1.66 ton ARAT II.
It’s (yet another) wasted chance to get better ammo( M829A3 / a useful “SAP-VT” shell in the M1147 AMP), CROWS-J or any of the multitude of outstanding issue(s) fixed with the Abrams.
i dont think the T-14 were in the drawing board, mostly because SEPV3 armor package was developed before the T-14 was presented. but i do believe threats like more modern rounds and possible future rounds were taken into account altought at 74 tons its gonna be a pain, they really need to make regenerative steering and more reallistic mobility before SEPV3 arrives or this is gonna be an absolute pain
Abrams can mount CROWS-J?
Even with a 20% loss in speed due to weight, it’ll still have a 35mph top speed and 20mph reverse speed.
Honestly they just need to fix the lower mantlet of the Abrams. I don’t even care if they release the sep v3
Well I remember various statements by Army generals even pre pandemic declaring they didn´t assess the T-14 as a tangible threat. But on the other hand, the same gun and associated ammunition can be easily retrofitted to T-72/90 platforms, which was their purpose originally. So its not out of the question that SEPv3 was required to provide protection against whatever level of capability was envisaged for Vacuum and the like.
assess* it sounds so bad if u say it the other way it means booties
Thanks for the heads up
The current CROWS mounted on the SEP V3 is a standardized mount, any vehicle with the modern CROWS can mount the CROWS-J or any of the myriad of sub variants, including but not limited to, M230s, Stingers, GAU-19s and more.
A Javelin CROWS would be really nice
yeah no worries lol, its just that ur comment might be deleted cuz of that, specially with the dubious quality of the moderation system
Ah crap, forgot WT used metric.
