Airfield AAA Discussion Thread - Air Realistic Battles

So this game is only supposed to cater to meta planes?

This game has hundreds of planes of different roles, trying to make a game mode that has to cater to all of their strengths and all play styles will only make it worse for everyone. It’s like putting a bridge layer in GRB and having players complain that every map doesn’t contain a mandatory river and a protected resupply zone.

Winning the game with 4 fighters in the air?
It’s not even remotely difficult in all honesty :)

My belove MiG-17 still has very limited ammo but, don’t see any problems for playing that thing because I don’t spray it like 50cal Sabres.
My J-7E/J35XS has just single 30mm cannons but, don’t see any problems even I usually use gunfighter not IR missile bus.

I think that is exactly what this game is supposed to be right? A game with all these different aircraft, where you can always play whatever you want and have fun in it, right? And the second part of that message is just a slippery slope fallacy

I was speaking under the assumption that the enemy team was also decent.

And agreed it is not too hard if enemy team is crap.

There are GRB vehicles that have something like 8 rounds but no one will complain about them being “off-meta”. Either pick a something else to fly or challenge yourself to do better in an inferior plane.

Yeah but this is an AA discussion right? Not a “git gud” or “skill issue” one right?

Using AF AA to your advantage is a “skill issue”. Literally the sole reason people want to see it removed.

I’m trying to have airfield AA do the literal thing it is supposed to do, why do airfields even exist if you think I shouldn’t land at any point?

No, I just don’t think that PvE mechanics should be able to kill other players. You should only be able to die by your own hand or by other players.

I don’t think players should be punished for trying to play them game and score kills.

I don’t think players should be punished for trying to rearm and repair their planes.

Why not ask for a button that makes your plane invulnerable at all times then?

How about making planes stop taking damage when they run out of ammo?

That was the case with Jet RB when there was no SAMs/SPAAs on the airfield.

I was on there when top BR was 9.0 and matchmakers had 9.7 hardcap, but in those days players took either 20mins fuel to get longer flight time or min fuel to get better flight performance.

When I flew MiG-17 and CL-13A Mk.5 I often took min fuel because it makes better top speed. And I saved ammo to avoid landing as much as possible. If I still needed to land, I would make sure the enemy also returned to the base or not, and if they were still flying, I would call out to my teammates to prevent them from rushing my team runway.

If they failed to make the rush to the AF, they almost always died because they had to deal simultaneously with aircrafts that had just finished refueling/reloading and aircrafts that could fly with better performance because they had less fuel left.

Even if all teammates had brought min fuel and needed to land, to prevent all teammates from being killed on the runway, they would land one by one in turn, and players who had finished refueling and those who had not yet finished refueling would coordinate with each other to protect the teammate who was refueling.

The game was a lot better and team orientated when there was no AF AA. You actually had to make choices between minfuel or 20 min fuel, or even 30/45 minutes fuel as games didn’t have this dumb 25 minute timer.

Right now, you just minfuel on most planes, or especially props, because you can just go into your AA bubble to refuel at ANY time.

Not only that but there was a load of variation where, for example, one team got an airspawn and the other didn’t. One team got an AF to reload, and the other didn’t. People would rage and whine about not having an airspawn/AF instead of finding ways to deal with it. Slowly and steadily the game was adjusted more and more towards the whining little ******* crowd instead of people who actually liked to have a challenge. Then we also got mixed MM because OH MY GOD people just couldn’t figure out how to fight Bf109s in P47s/P51s. Can’t have US teams getting wiped right, it is after all the biggest demographic playing this game.

Adding AF AA dumbed down the choices one had to make in this game based on the map and MM which was given. It really doesn’t matter now, you do the same thing on every plane in every match. Just the loaded textures are different.

I would gladly go back to the game how it was in 2015 with all its flaws and issues compared to how it is now. It was so much more fun.

Why not ask for a button that kills everyone then?

Because this is a PvP game and killing other players should require skill and tactics. And not getting killed should reauire skill and tactics. And not reliance upon AAA death zone.

Having a zone that kills other players for you is approaching that.
