yeah, I think the thing that would go a long way to fixing it is actual modeled shells coming from actual and not the weird generic hitscan thing from low-poly howizers
they can clearly do it judging by how high tier gun AA is modeled
Yeah, CAS is basically a text book example of shitty Game Design, you litterally remove player agency by forcing them to deal with something they have zero control over, which is why I always state that GRB is purely luck based, anyone can sit in a corner and wait for one guy to cross their LoS for 10 minutes, ending their match even though theyre the one actively playing, this is impossible in ARB, even Airfield Camping has a counter through tickets.
and thats just one problem with the gamemode lol.
Once again, AF AA should only be active when there is someone currently landed on it.
It’s hilarious how you are able to get free protection when you are not vulnerable, and it makes for terrible game design.
Hmm…
There is a really really fine line that needs to be tread here.
I dont think you should be unprotected when landing, so it needs to be active prior to someone actually being on the ground and I do think being given at least time retract your landing gear and gain a little speed is also essential.
Remaining landed isnt an issue because the game doesnt treat you as an active player in that situation, so that is already dealt with.
That just leaves oribiting an AF in the protection indefinetly. So its setting it up in such a way that the AF protection cant be exploiited but does actually work.
Perhaps if you spend more than a minute in proximity of AF the guns disable (with a cooldown so you cant just keep popping in and out) which resets when you land (again, though, only once, maybe twice, within a certain window)
Id also have the long ranged AAA become more accurate the longer the enemy is within the zone and so starts out fairly inaccurate, would allow you to dive bomb in and out on someone camping a little easier, but the close range stuff to be accurate except for above
I think I’ve said my full thoughts somewhere earlier in this thread, but the best idea is that it enables once your gear/aircraft touches down, and remains enabled until 1 minute after takeoff. To prevent repeated landings/takeoffs, it will not enable again for another 3-5 minutes after it shuts off.
That’s not a bad idea.
I know this opinion is a bit radical, BUT.
I think it should be unprotected, you are landing after just a few minutes bc somehow you have no more ammo on your P-47? Thats on you, you need to repair bc you did a nobrainer full commit headon and your engine is red? Thats on you.
It’s the only way for people to learn to value their early-game decisions more.
thought i dont want my plane to get critically dmg but able to limp back to repair for some MONSTER or absolute goblin that camp my airfield waiting for me to come back or chase me down and kills me
also fuel because i dont bring full tank everytime
If im RTBing because i’ve just gotten 4 kills in my Spitfire, run out of ammo and running low on fuel, I dont think there is much to be punished for. Likewise if im in a bomber and im RTBing to grab more bombs before heading back out again, then again, I dont really see what i’ve done wrong and why I should be punished for it.
Whilst its less of an issue because of the BR (in fact, I dont think there is any need for an AF AAA disabling past about 9.0/10.0) one of the main aircraft I play at the moment in ARB is the Tornado GR4 and if I can, I will always RTB and head back out again for another bomb run, but not before getting my hands dirty and trying to dogfight.
had a match the other day where after killing someone, destroying a base and RTBing, I went out again and took out another base and killed the last guy on their team. Now whilst I didnt need the AAA protection necessarily for that as they were no where close, I dont think RTBing is a bad thing. There was nothing for me to “learn”. I needed more fuel, missiles and bombs. What’s next, just remove AFs altogether?
If teams were much smaller, maybe. But as is, you need airfield protection to land and rearm if you want to do a serious carry. The only replacement would be an aerial rearm zone.
The next issue is how random the game is. Yesterday I was playing the A6M3 Model 32, and in one match I onetapped a Spitfire MkV and a P-51A. Next match, I’m shooting a Yak and the same 20mms with the same belts as before took several hits to bring him down. It’s not like the Yak is that tough, I’ve onetapped plenty of them in the past. The game is simply not very deterministic.
My personal record is 12 kills without rearming in Bf 109 F2 and at the end I still had a few 15mm shells left.
Look at high scores, battles with over 7 kills are super rare.
Either disable AF AAA or literally force people one way or another to fly away from AAA bubble.
Give player a warning he’ll be treated as coward and deserter and knocked unconscious via 9mm nerfdart through the back of the head if he doesn’t leave 7km zone around AF for 140s (this can be adjusted depending on the rank, and aircraft type, f.e. Po-2 should be have a bit more time due to super low topspeed, just like AF AAA range and intensity should be adjusted) and be done with it. There should be also limited time for takeoff - blocking runways is an act of sabotage.
140s is enough time to get to speed and sufficient altitude. If it’s not enough - well, such is life.
Then make it so that the timer only resets by 1s every 3s, so if you want to return to AF too quickly. Anyway, there’s plenty of better solutions than allowing people to fly around the AF for entire game.
The F-2 especially is very efficient on ammo after the 15mm got buffed. Extremely good ballistics and just one gun, placed exactly where you’d want it.
But that’s far from applying to most or even half of the planes in this game.
IMO AAA would only turn on if you are below ~500m radar altitude, ~1km from the center of the airfield, AND have your gear down. Or you’re on the runway already. No more blasting past the airfield at top speed with someone in tow. If AAA turns on with someone in that radius, they would only start firing IF that player is not travelling away from the airfield.
Or make it so if someone stays in a, say, 6km radius from the airfield (twice as long as AAA range) they count as inactive, as if they were sitting on the runway. Add in a delay timer after takeoff so you don’t get slapped by it if you’re being an honest pilot and playing the game.
There’s a thousand different ways to stop this from being an issue and we could sit here all week coming up with new ways to do it.
Ding ding ding!
Landing is a PRIVILEGE, not a guarantee. If you fuck up a dogfight, you take your L Bozo, and you die.
also above 8.0 AA is useless, just kiss the ground and strafe the airfield princess hoping they win on tickets, always sweet fanmail after the match ends too <3
On the flip side, why should someone who hasn’t done anything the entire match, deserve a free kill of a vulnerable plane? How on earth is that fair? Why should someone be punished for playing the game?
Should I be a free kill because I actually did stuff? Why does the other person get a kill despite not doing anything to outplay the other?
It’s incredibly good at defending the AF if the person is flying over it at altitude.
So, run out of ammo, fuel, etc, just J out?
If enemy is around, tough luck.
prop AA shells should really be modeled like high tier aa shells atp where they arent hitscan and are actual modeled shells
lol can you imagine the whining on r/warthunder? will never happen.
I guess that is the conclusion at the end of this. People like to say if you landed its because you “made a mistake”, so even if you get 5 kills and just need ammo, you should just die, or leave the game, because you made the mistake of shooting at 5 players. Rocket planes should also last the entire 25 minutes of a match, 2 minutes of fuel is plenty. Used all 4 missiles in your Sea Vixen? Guess you should have gotten 2 kills per missile.

watch how i die and tell me AA is justified, im waiting.
Garbage opinion. You just want to farm helpless aircraft and not get punished for it. How bout YOU get better and shoot people down before they can RTB.
Oh, you can’t? Skill Issue. Git Gud.
