Thats not an R73 equivalent by any means however. Aim-9M are totally fine, they could get some fixes yes, just like Magic 2’s, but they’re nowhere near bad as people state it to be.
I know, but that was the missile the US government created that was “better” than the R-73.
I never said they were, though the lock ranges would be quite a major buff for some aircraft, like the Gripen that is currently lacking BVR.
Thats the only really annoying thing Ive found with the 9M. They just dont lock in front aspect unless you are within maybe 2 or 3Km. Aim-9L lock on at far far better ranges, its actually genuinely annoying.
AIM-9X entered in service in 2003 roughly, it better be than a 1984 missile. AIM-9M’s entered in service in 1983, while R-73 entered in service in 1984. AIM-9M is better for long range shots, R-73 is better for close range shots.
While i agree with your point and i think every missile should be fixed, i completly disagree with OP’s and people thinking AIM-9M is a bad missiles.
Yeah, though that was always because NATO was BVR focused rather than IR focused. That can be seen in-game comparing the performance of radars.
They did. The AIM-95. It could have been added as an almost perfect counterpart to the R-73
No.
Have a good day.
Understandable, have a nice day
Meanwhile magic 2:
This missile is one of the most free kills in sim. r73 is still bugged to hell when it comes to hobs and still wobbles around. The way they have modeled the 9M seeker is worrying when newer ir missiles get added. Primarily due to the fact some devs seem to hold certain beliefs to heart, almost like a dogma. >IIR can’t be flared bro. Despite being videos of that happening. (This is a bit more complicated but it should pass the point)
Genuinely bs bro, I’ve dropped reinforced flares on one 3km behind me changing directions and gaining altitude while turning off my afterburner and it still hit me, i dropped 60 reinforced flares
Yeah why doesn’t anyone complain about the magic 2?? Its irccm is better than the r73 and I’ve seen it pull the samw maneuvers as well as its at a lower br on afterburning jets
if it took you that many and you still got shot down, you are using them wrong.
The IRCCM Seeker Fov on the Magic2 and R73 are quite literally the same, both have 0.75 Fov.
Its got the same IRCCM currently it should be much smaller around 0.4 not 0.75 FOV and its miss8ng its 50g pull still
Yeah it also sits as low as 11.0 when it can see planes without any CMs
Then what point is IRCCM serving?
I’ve had way more problems flaring magic 2s than t73s and I’ve been playing toptier for a while. Ik how to use flares but theres nothing you can do if the missile just ignores your flares
That may be because the Magic 2 zips across the sky way faster, giving you less time to react.
That might be it, would make sense tbh
Magic II should also make use of the AIM-9M IRCCM technique, which would make it exceedingly difficult to decoy.
From what others have said, when Magic II actually detects a flare (already difficult, and going to become more so with bug fixes) , the FoV will increase temporarily, in order to better re-acquire the target.
Just look at the end of game and see which player made most kills. The one with AIM-9M-s. And did you tried to evade couple of them? Did anyone ever done that in 12v12 game? So yes, they are overpowered.
