hi! today i was playing warthunder and i fired a aim-9m and it started acting weird like didn’t know where to go also yesterday when i was playing warthunder i had same issue with same missle but it just missed enemy when we were facing ourself and he didn’t even tried to dodge it im uploading 1 video from past 2 minutes ago
It looks correct.
Aim-9M’s IRCCMs works by switching the seeker off when it sees a flare and then flying towards the targets last known interception point.
So, in the clip above, at 0:32 the F-18 deploys a flares, the missile sees one of these and switches off its seeker. Looks like around 0:36. The F-18 is pulliing a hard turn away and so the missile misses because its going for where the target should be.
At least that is what I can tell from the clip. Though I find the shut-off can be a bit wierd in front-ish aspects
missle shouldn’t act like that here is another clip Watch War Thunder - W bitwie 2025-09-16 17-00-46 | Streamable
How should missiles act then?
Its in the name, AIM 9 Miss
2 possibiliies.

the target flared but the replay bugged (happens all the time) at which point, it just went for the flare, (the IRCCM doesnt seem to really work in front aspect) .
-
the Aim-9M saw the Aim-9L motor that was fired at 1:21 and engaged its seeker shut off and went for the targets last known interception
Though in either instances. Im not surprised it missed. Aim-9Ms are terrible in head on shots against anyone aware. They are best used side aspect or rear-aspect. Managed to slap 2x Su-33s in a single match with them in a Tornado Gr4 yesterday
or it could be that the seeker relocked/locked the 9L instead of the F-18 since they were so close and it was a front aspect shot
Yeah, that is possible too.
It hard to see clearly what is going on from just a clip
The 9M is hard-coded not to lock onto flares. Stupid as shit, seeing as it then tracks missiles better than afterburning aircraft.
normally not like that xd
Then a bug report may be in order… Im fairly certain ive seen them going straight for flares (in that they didnt just fly straight when they saw a flare, instead actually turned towrads the flare) when fired in front aspect more than a few times.
i did that half hour ago
also i can record some of gameplay to send there
yeah thats what it looked like to me 9L and F-18 being visible within the seeker and then the f18 turned away and its heat signature disappeared and 9L remained
clearly havent shot many 9Ms from front aspect
the angle of attack is arbitrary
What you might’ve been seeing is it shutting off the seeker as it immediately ditching all IOG data (for no fuckin reason, who knows why it simply forgets that it’s tracking an aircraft) and turn full-pull in the opposite direction.
well that’s defiently a bug because other IRCCM missles from other nations defiently hit me from front but as always american nation is broken
what different with other nations IRCCM is that they use fov shrinker compared to the 9Ms shut off IRCCM
