i am making a replica of the AIM-9B and cant find the dimensions of the forward canards on the front. does anyone know the dimensions of the canards?
i hope that helps you:
I believe this has the exact dimensions (or 1/5 scale ones) but I’m not capable of reading this yet. I’m sure someone knows what style this is and how to translate it to plain measurements.
I couldn’t find a similar image with more plain measurements exclusively for the front canards.
The legend at the top says the dimensions are in inches. The measurements without any markings and are associated with arrows probably indicate width. The ones with the ∅ symbol are the diameter (that’s the standard engineering symbol for diameter). I’m not sure what STA stands for, but given that those measurements start at 0.00 at the bottom and increase as it goes up, I assume it means the length/distance from the bottom of the missile.
I should also note that while the legend says it’s “1/15 scale”, the written measurements appear to match the full-scale measurements. For example, the table at the bottom of this webpage says that the AIM-9B is 2830 mm (111.4 inches) long, has a diameter of 5 inches, and the bottom control fins span 559 mm (22 inches), which exactly match the measurements listed in the image (STA 111.4, 5.0 ∅, 22.0).
So yeah, the image seems legit, and the canard wingspan OP was asking for is therefore 15.0 inches according to the diagram. It’s a pretty detailed diagram TBH.
