Playing the F/A-18A is great with a PD radar, but the AIM-7Ms are doing horribly, even though enemies are barely doing anything. Still launching at 8km head-on makes the sparrow miss.
Do you launch with the lock being red? although I would expect full head ons to always have a full lock, if it isn’t red then the missile won’t have a lock and will go for IOG until it gets a lock or gives up and explodes prematurely

they’re just a mediocre fox-1. Haven’t had any issues with the F-18A recently

they’re really mediocre missiles and not at all reliable I think the aim7p will be a big upgrade due to having iog and datalink but I’ve never used it. it’s completely normal for an aim7m to just fly in a random direction or just in a straight line I have no idea why but it’s been like that forever.
that being said, they’re not bad and are still somewhat reliable if slow just sometimes you have a dud and gotta launch 2
IOG and datalink outright fix 99% of the sparrow guidance issues.
Like kinematically 7Ps are still sparrows but very rarely you get some nonsensical missile behaviour on launch and if you do, DL tard wrangles it onto target.
One plane that comes close to 7Ps is F-2A ADTW since it has AESA, but still you feel the lack of IOG+DL combo at times.
If only that BR range wasnt currently being molested by Su30s

AIM7M’s are some of the worst SARH in the entire game. They’re virtually so easy to defeat you can even outroll them on a hard wing phantom one after another. If they had a wider proxy action they would be good at least considering they have more TNT load than R27ERs but they need to almost touch the target and barely do a crit because they deal more damage forward than from any other side of the missile.

aim7M is not added with its full capability. Missile is very nerfed. Its part of gaijin selective realism.
Funny how 27ER still reliable at top tier in the su30sm, but 7M is just a piece of garbage that can be defeated while rolling
