Does the aim7m really has this capability or its a server desync? Never used the aim7P since its behind a paywall (and one of the worst vehicles for the BR) and it got me very excited for an DL sparrow for the Super Tomcat. Both really need it.
AIM-7M should not be able to do that IIRC

Yep, it will track as long as radar is tracking and target is within its cone. Thats how f4j has up to 6 “fox3” at 12.0.

so it regains lock when you lock the target again
The guy was quite unlucky because he somehow manouvered into the same position relative to the 1st missile seeker.
When you broke the lock while notching, the 7M went dumb because it stopped receiving any radar returns. When you relocked and launched the 2nd missile, the 1st one started receiving the returns again because it’s seeker FOV was still pointing into the zone where your radar started “illuminating” in the 2nd lock.
The AIM-7P or any other missile with DL would also receive information on where to point itself to search for the return, so it could regain tracking even if the guy was outside of the seeker’s FOV
