Multipathing? Or like, you lost lock and it dives?
Not really.
- If PD/PDV modes are being affected by chaff. Then there is an issue, they should not be. Likewise there might be an issue if PD/PDV radars are swapping to SRC too early.
- If SARH missiles are not guiding correctly on PD/PDV then there is an issue (I suspect there might be an issue)
- The main advantage of PD/PDV radars should be low altitude engagement but MP eliminates this.
In aircraft like the FGR2, too many times have I had PDV just straight up fail to guide a Skyflash correctly or the target just hugged the deck and the missile was defeated that way. I generally just sit high and use the SRC radar if I ever play it in Sim. Eliminates both issues
nope, i do understand when multipathing happens and it is expected however a target that is high in the sky may sometimes cause my missile to go dumb and hit the ground or veer off to the sides turning in a random direction, not following the clear head on target at all.
Not launching properly?
Never had an issue with the JA37’s
i do consider my launches to be proper, most of the time im able to have the missile hit apart from these random glitches. ill record it next time it happens so we can make a conclusion together.
It has a far better radar than most for the BR. I’ve never had any issues in the F3, only the relatively basic PDV radar in the FGR2/FG1. OP may be talking about the same or similar radar probably on a Phantom
Edit just checked, if OP is talking about firing Aim-7Fs from the F4J then it has the same radar as the FGR2. The AN/APG-59. So it could be an issue with that radar specifically. He does also mention the F-20, which is a different radar, but if that radar is being notched too easily then that is another issue. Especially for the BR
That happens for most SARH missiles, goes for random targets, same situation when ur lock goes mad and goes to a random place, but for missiles. I do have an example where it actually hits an enemy aircraft but yeah, does happen, don’t think this is what actually he is talking about, cause it seems to me to be a HDN PDV exclusive thing.
I face the same issue in the F-4EJ which doesn’t have a PDV mode (or at least I don’t use it).
The problem is you’re facing longer ranges missiles like the R-27ER which will fire first in 10km+ before it becomes practical to fire the Aim-7F.
Horrible? They seem to be damn near undefeatable at 10km and below if you are at anything above multipath level.
Check Nike Ajax’s video above. I’m talking about the glitches of the missile. Of course, it’s decent when it works.
I’m talking about F-4EJ Kai radar…just western radars in general.
After all, I’m not sure if it’s a missile issue or radar issue. The “go bad” issue doesn’t happen much with the bison.
I theorize that it’s the unique combo of PD + lack of IOG; Russian missiles generally have IOG and are more reliable
Then multipath.
It would be nice if we don’t go further on this. I don’t want this to turn into a game balance/tactics discussion; I’m only talking about the missile going bad issue, and thus, a machinery discussion.
Aren’t you on WTUDS? I’ll make sure to send this there :)
Which they need to remove
Em go ahead. I’m known as the bomber guy there anyway.
Have to disagree on that. Heavily.
