First of all, i would love to see AI vehicles in tank mode, not only in air gamemode. I never understood why no ground AI in ground mode. (We already had them on the carpathia map, but they got removed).
I dont know if AI tanks are a good idea, but stuff like:
AI support trucks trucks that travel to the capture points (you get a few points for defending them, and for destroying those of the enemy) would definitely be a good addition.
AI pillboxes, bunkers or anti tank guns could work in a way or another, maybe they defend the capture point once a team has it captured(you could do this with the gun of the armored train on flanders aswell)
AI machine gunners like in the frontline air mode fighting each other in trenches.
Maybe even AI artillery behind the spawn that shoots if someone calls in an artillery strike.
Also AI cargo planes like the Ju-52 could be brought back with the D-Point. Instead of randomly crashing, an AA vehicle could shoot it down for creating the D-Point where it chrashes. I really didn’t understand why the D-Point got removed, i had no problem with the fact that it sometimes was more near to the enemy, because next time it may be near my team.
AI vehicles would definitely make the world more alive, the ground maps currently all feel a bit dead, in opposite to the air maps, where there is actually something going on.
Another thing that bugs me is the lack of game modes. What happened to the “break” and “skirmish” gamemode? They might not have been perfect, but could definitely be fixed/improved, and for sure brought a bit of change to the ground gameplay then always having domination and conquest (and a few times battle). They could do so much with this game, there have already been many many great ideas for fun game modes on this forum, but instead of making the gameplay and maps better, they just add countless copy paste top tier vehicles.
Maybe it is just nostalgia, but i think the golden days of war thunder have passed.
Oh boy, pls no. Not again…
There used to be AI ground units, but they have been removed in 2015(?). Why? Well, the ground AI units were incredibly stupid and unbelievably annoying.
Tanks were moving across the battlefield, but their pathfinding was total crap, so they got stuck on the first obstacle they hit, unable to move around or avoid it…
Also, they had integrated “wallhack” and “aimbot”, so the moment they spawned they immediately opened fire on the enemy, players and AI alike. No matter that there were buildings, trees or hills/rocks in between. They simply kept firing until destroyed or damaged. This meant two things:
you couldn’t hide because enemy AI units were firing at you permanently, showing your position.
the noise of shells hitting the ground and other obstacles was really getting on one’s nerves.
Another thing related to their movement: they never stopped. Should you be in their path, they just pushed you away. Lovely, when you’re aiming and want to fire or waiting in a cover. Even better when you need to repair broken tracks (keeps resetting because you’re moving). Gaijin tried to fix this by forcing AI units to stop when near players. This made things abit better but lead to situations, when you wanted to cross their way or drive by, but they suddenly stopped and you rammed them instead.
BTW, did I mention that AI units were locked to one side of a map, regardless of which team spawned there? I mean, for example, German AI units always spawned on the right side of the Kuban map, while Russian AI spawned on the left. This means, that often German players played with Russian AI against German AI and vice versa. Great immersion, needless to say…
So, please, no more ground AI units. I still have nightmares from time to time about the original Kursk map (now Fire Arc), where German AI AT guns were non-stop firing and hitting the ground about 10 meters in front of them, while russian AI AT guns were lethal lazzzorz…
You may say “Hey, it’s been 10 years, devs could surely implement an improved version!”
Well, let me remind you that we’re talking about Gaijin here. You know, the folks who can’t for the love of God make even such a simple thing as sounds to work properly…
This happens in the games you set up for yourself. The enemy tanks pile up in certain areas.
We also have the game against incoming enemy units and that is somewhat repetitive.
Bots know where you are at all times.
Yeah you are right, they were very broken. I already stated that i dont know if AI tanks are a good addition because of that.
The technology we have today could definitely make them work, but as you said, its gaijin we are talking about.
