The ah1g is literally useless and unplayable. the only thing it can do is fly in and maybe get one kill. With so many players maining spaa with radar, the second you show your face you get gunned down instantly sometimes before you even get a hit on target, after hours of grinding I managed to get 2 kills in one match. If you aren’t getting destroyed instantly by spaa, turm III and pzh2000s are destroying you instantly. This helicopter is pure pain and is hindering me from grinding the rest of the tech tree, I dont understand why this heli isnt 7.7. at least then it has less of a chance of seeing radar spaa made 30+ years after the heli was built. the 8.0 br ranger is pure crap and needs to be fixed post haste. If you thought you will have fun playing this iconic and historically significant helicopter then think again because you are more likely to snap your keyboard over your knee or throw your controller across the room than you are to survive a match in this helicopter…
I didnt know that option was there thank goodness
You can’t put it at 7.7, it just becomes overpowered. You must ask for BR decompression. (Who would have thought)
No. It won’t. Put it at 1.0 and there will be no difference. Anything with autocannon or machinegun kills it instantly and we have plenty of both on every rank.
Not reality.
Welcome to the early and mid-tier helicopter rocket run experience.
Enjoy the pain, or just don’t play them. Frankly speaking it’s a waste of SP 9 times out of 10.
Although, IRL those early helicopters were used against tanks, in game helis without ATGM are just collectibles. Theirs engine sounds are incredibly loud for some reason, so enemy knows about you before you reach the battlefield. And, it seems, every player have that uncontrollable instinct to stop fighting and try to shot down that poor thing. I’m serious, even if you are lucky enough to not being killed by radar SPAA, everyone starts shooting at you. Even friendlies can’t help it and look up to observe how you fly by and burn XD
Well for starters helicopters are genuinely loud IRL.
Second off yes, everyone who can will shoot at you because a low flying heli is a very easy target.
Third off, if you’re going to try doing rocket runs you do not want to come from blatantly obvious angles - Ex. Directly at them from your spawn. -
Compared to the ground vehicles being confined to a stupid fishbowl all aircraft have a 3x-5x larger area that they can use to move around and set up ambushes on other aircraft or attack runs on ground vehicles. That is an advantage to explore and use. If you’re not doing that, then that’s just a skill issue on your part.
Now, it’s not guaranteed to net you kills but if you play your cards right it increases your chances of getting kills before being shot down or even being able to RTB by playing said cards right.
Tanks are also loud IRL.
I know all that, I use all that. But one camper who wants an easy kill and wait for you is enough. And, as you said yourself, 9 times out of 10, there is one.
Dude I’ve hugged the ground, flown all the way around the map and come up behind them and still get shot down instantly by some sweat in a pzh2000 waiting for me and watching the sky with his modern artillery piece with proxy and lazer range finder that this heli should never see, this game is just horribly balanced
It would not be op haha. There’s still a ton of stuff at that br that can kill you instantly
That’s just how it goes, man. Nothing for it, which is why I suggested to just not play helicopters.
Lot of people are in agreement since they’re addition that the addition of them has always been, and still is, half-baked. Classic Gaijin for you.
To be fair, with Proxy HE you don’t even need an LRF to take out a heli, so that bit is a non-argument. I say that from personal experience using other Arty that lack SPH but have Prox HE to take out helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.
Also, again, ground vehicles are stuck in stupid fishbowl map designs. They don’t have alot of room to move around themselves so sometimes the best move is just to sit still and wait for something to come your way.
But yes, this game has balance issues. Always has, always will because Gaijin just doesn’t know how to implement vehicles properly to adjust BRs properly or model things properly let alone decompress the BR ranges properly.
Problem is, as soon as I play a 8.0 lineup and I see US on the opposite side, I just sit and wait for the usual dummies who fly right to the spawn at the beginning of just about every match. Easy points.
I’ve only ever seen on good pilot in the Cobra, who actually did a couple of runs and returned to rearm. They didn’t hit the spawn, but waited for light tanks taking caps or the odd tank that was spotted by a drone. They also tended to make a rocket run and then move off. Most helo pilots like lots of CAS pilots just hang around trying to get a kill until they die.
Being loud is very accurate especially for an old Huey based helicopter
enemy team must have been trash if they survived a rocket run because these are the easiest things to kill ever
Their aim was unreal. They didn’t fly in close but did some decent rocket shots from well out, or you were in a tank that didn’t have MG on top, they just stayed above them circling while firing. Not all maps have line of sight to support your team so anyone who understands how to hide or use hills/trees/valleys for cover could do well.
The issue though with all helos is their noise. Makes them hard to miss if you listen for them.
Best use for cobra is to go camp enemy heli spawn.
I totally disagree. AH-1G is one of the tankiest helis in the game. In comparison, the actually nicknamed “flying tank” the Mi-24s are terrible. Get hit by one .50 cal and all your systems are offline.
I’ve not only been hit by many Gepards and the like, but also show AH-1Gs directly with 100mm or greater cannons to get a “hit”
There is a special place in hell for heli spawn campers.
They need to add spaa back to the pads to prevent that.
