Ah-64a

Y’all know when a tank pops smoke that AH-64A loses the lock on that tank so explain how this guy Kills
my tank Without an aimbot or something? And don’t tell me it was just a lucky shot this happens more time than I can shake a stick at

Do you move after popping smoke?

Whilst hellfires dont have IOG like the KH-38s do, I think they will go ballistic if the laser spot is lost. Essentially becoming an unguided rocket, if you smoke too late and dont move, they;ll just impact whatever is in their path

I’ll just assume you haven’t played helicopters before, and talk you through what happened here from Heli players perspective.

Firstly, there is no ‘aimbot’. Helicopters (the more modern ones like Apache) have the ability to either place a fixed lock on you - or use something called sight stabilization. The former will keep the camera pointed directly at your centre mass, the latter will keep the camera pointed at a specific place on the ground.

When you pop smoke, he can no longer maintain a fixed lock on you, but if his sight stabilization is still on, he will still have his camera pointed at the exact place he last seen you. So if you do not move, he can still fire a missile at where he thinks you are and hit you.

Now with beamriding AGM’s, like Vikhr, this is very easy. The missile will just fly where you aim. But with laserguided AGM’s like Hellfire, the smoke distorts the point of impact. Sometimes it will undershoot, sometimes it will overshoot, but with enough practice an Apache player can get good at where he has to aim on the smoke cloud for his missile to strike a certain spot within it.

If you don’t want this to happen to you again. Move after you deploy smoke. The further you move the better (and pop more if youre going to move out of your first cloud). If you can, try and move ‘diagonally’ relative to the helicopter. That way you make him have to guess two axis of adjustment, instead of just moving sideways or backwards where he only has to guess on one.

While their IOG is subpar. It’s good enough if like you said they do a late smoke pop and don’t move.

They shouldn’t have any fuel left when flying down so they can’t speed up.

The IOG on the Hellfire is like the IOG on the Brimstone, once the laser is activated it becomes disabled and doesnt rearm.

The idea being is that you can fire a hellfire towards a location and then pop up and use your laser in the terminal phase.

So its purely just an unguided rocket if the laser is enabled and then disabled

IOG should reactivate. I don’t see any reason it wouldn’t. Only issue WT has with IOG on Hellfire is the drift multiplier was increased substantially cause people were killing spaa players who didn’t know how to use the W key.

It doesnt in game and I think that is historically accurate.

IOG wouldn’t be a once and done thing so long as the seeker has power it should maintain IOG.

I will have to test in game to see if IOG doesn’t reactivate. I do know for certain Gaijin nerfed the IOG deviation on the Hellfire though. Everyone talked about it when they did it.

One, I play with my Apache helicopters all the time. I have all U.S. Helicopters now, and I know how the Apache works, so you know it’s just one of those things. But I know that whenever I lock on a tank and that Tank Pop’s smoke, I can’t hit that tank! And that enemy helicopter was an Apache, and it was firing AGM-114, I have all 4 Apache helicopters from the A to the D.

You want to link us the server replay?

I would if I knew how to I’ll have to record it and send you the link to my YouTube channel

Go here find the match you were in send us a copy of the link.

I can’t find the darn thing lol

AGM-114 has Two modes, Loft and Direct, we only have Loft to get direct you have to be extremely close to target so ignore that for this argument.

Assuming you are about 3-8km away from the helicopter

If the helicopter lobs the AGM-114 at that distance the ATGM will fly up once it gets to max loft it will look down with the seeker and look for the Laser reflecting off your tank into the sky, it then plots a flight path down onto the part of the laser reflection on the tank, (This is not beam riding it’s looking for the reflection).

If you Pop smoke while it is in Loft mode the ATGM will just keep flying off in its ballistic trajectory,
If you Pop smoke when it is in Attack mode (located the laser reflection) then it will do the same it will follow a ballistic trajectory but only if the Pilot turns off the laser, If he keeps it on and aims at you in smoke the smoke distorts the reflection and there is may possible impact points nor you or the pilot knows where the AGM-114 will go.
If you Pop smoke when you hear the ATGM it’s almost always too late and it will still hit you like a car trying to turn a corner but going too fast and your the brick wall, it may not be locked to you but its momentum and time needed to turn off to the new reflection its not enough.

If you look for the replay in-game replays you should see an option for server replay there aswell if I remember correctly. Use that to get the link.
