AH-1Z and aim-9x

Silly me, I forgot the AH-1Z faces MiG-15s in ground matches… And not jets that sit comfortably at mach 1.2 at Sea Level

An AH-1Z isn’t chasing around air targets in ground matches.

Not in my considerable experience. I spend more time trying to clear the skies than I do trying to make Hellfires pretend to function correctly.

The range is almost always the issue, not the maneuverability.

True

but no amount of vodka and bathsalts makes the Igla a better A2A missile than 9M.

Well you sure as shit won’t be facing a MiG-15Bis in your 12.0 GRB match or any GSB rotation. What else would you find that isn’t going full AB and never once getting within 5km of you?

Except the range, similar maneuverability, better seeker… Either you get the point or you’re long lost.

you sure it can actually carry the missile rn?

All of the missiles on helis will struggle to do anything in that scenario

“similar manoeuvrability”
No.

I understand the point(s) it just doesn’t make the Igla a better missile.

In which case others will have far better chances to hit a target.

Are you dyslexic?

Mach 0.9 (or faster) and never getting closer than 5km? Not that much better.

Apparently.

Two 9X would not even come close to the A2A performance of 8, let alone 16 TY-90s
But the AH-1Z is american, and american helis aren’t allowed to be effective at anything

For those who are against the idea of the AIM-9X for the AH-1Z.

Perhaps another slight upgrade to the AIM-9M-4 Sidewinder (current in-game) by replacing it with the later block AIM-9M-8/10 missile instead?

It would just have better tracking against more modern infrared countermeasures, new missile audio tones for the pilot, some visual changes to the forward hangar material and its cager assembly (to match F/A-18E/F environment requirements), and that’s about it.

Everything from the G overload and rocket mortar performance would remain the same.

I personally think that the AH-1Z would still be a good balancing platform to test AIM-9Xs at least before the current or later blocks of the F-15C/E, F-16C and F/A-18 Hornet, or even the F-22 or F-35 come officially to the game with theirs in the future.

These supposedly also expanded the overload to 35G single plane.

aim-9x on ah-1z would be balanced because kinematically it should be roughly equivalent to 9M, and seeker shut off + fov has been in the game for a long time on much better missiles and missile platforms.

Ka-52 and mi28-nm, or even the Z-10 have superior Air to air capability than a AH-1Z even with 9X replacing the 9M.

I’m okay with adding it, and honestly the 9X looks cooler than the 9M because of its cut wings.

@Smin1080p_WT thoughts?

Igla is amazing, but vikhr is superior anecdotally

Debatable. ATAS is superior side and rear aspect because of speed and range, and 9M is only good for aircraft coming in front aspect while within close range.

Majority of helicopters will be engaging from the sides of the battlefield, and will more often face jets coming in side aspect, and that is where the ATAS outshines the 9M in majority of cases

And it wouldn’t be half as much of an issue if the 9M has its actual front aspect lock range. so you could actually fire it before the jet is already flying past you.

9X just became functional in dev. Its basically an angrier 9M with an actually good seeker.
I don’t see why it shouldn’t come on the AH-1Z, its not that scary ( plus it smokes to apparently?)
