AH-1G gunsight lacking rocket sight

Good day everyone,

Just wanting to reach out to see if anybody else has data on the AH-1G pilot gunsight. Currently, I’ve attempted to report that it is lacking the FFAR sight setting 5 times (and now banned from the bug report website twice for it).

The data I’ve collected is from TM 55-1520-221-10, Operator’s Manual Army Model AH-1G-Helicopter, April 1967 ( AH-1G Flight Manual). On page 6-17, Section 6-60, it states “the pilot is provided with a fixed illuminated reticle sight for firing the TAT-102A turret in the stowed position and podded guns and rockets on the wing stores.” IAW section 6-75, it states on step e that the pilot is to “alight fixed sight on target”, meaning there would have to be a sight designed for the rocket use. Finally, as per page 6-23, the pilots sight is bore-sighted to the wing pods… meaning that THOSE should be the default sight.

Currently in game, Version 2.55.0.38, we only have the following three.

7.62mm minigun pods

chin turret

20mm wing gun

Ironically enough, I’ve been told that I need to report what it would look like… however to do so, we would either have to have a way to change the sight settings IAW with the FFAR ballistic chart (that’s in the helicopter currently) or be told a given setting that would be implemented into the game.

Any additional information would be appreciated, especially in regards to the M37 reflex gunsight itself.

Actually, I did find the TM 55-1520-221-10 from 1971. Forgot I had this saved. AH-1G Flight Manual : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

Oh page 6-25, it actually states that the wing stores are set up via the ballistic data card in the cockpit.

Pretty sure this is a weird confluence of two separate conventions;

Where the cockpit is setup as part of gaming conventions, to have the camera set up to be centered on the sights, not where the pilots head would be.

And that the sights are made to correlate with the airframe boresight line, not the weapon’s datum line or other reference plane by fiat, even when sources indicate the sights should appropriately be zeroed otherwise.

This is especially noticeable with aircraft that rely on external gunpods like the F-4 & F-111 where the gunpods somehow shoot though the fuselage when centrally mounted, well above where the instructor points the aircraft, and others where the instructor effectively points the fixed armament; not the nose of the aircraft, even without vertical convergence being set.

Hmm? The gunsight isn’t set up for the rockets at all. It’s set up for only the guns (the default being the chin turret and then you can select either the mini gun or 20mm) and there’s no rocket option.
