Description: The Agusta Westland AW159 is a British naval helicopter developed to replace the old Lynx. It made its first flight in 2009 and entered into service with the British army in 2014 and with British naval aviation in 2015. It’s history in the ROK navy started back in 2013 when the Korean government signed with Agusta Westland a contract for the acquisition of height helicopters. becoming the first foreign user of the AW159. The Korean navy decided to use the helicopters for various roles such as search and rescue, naval patrol, ASW, and air-to-ground missions. But it is in these last two departments that the Korean Wildcat differs the most compared to the British model; indeed, the Korean Navy decided to equip their AW159 with the Israeli Spike NLOS (Non Line of Sight), which is a 50 km range atgm instead of the French-British Sea Venom for ingage small vessels, patrol craft, and armored units. They also decided to adopt the K745 Blue Shark 324 mm torpedo for anti-submarine operations while the Royal Navy used the Stingray torpedo. Other differences compared to the British Wildcat can be founded in some avionics and especially in the radar, which happens to be the Seaspray 7400E, a modern AESA radar with a 360-degree coverage and a spotting capability up to 360 km of range. In 2015, Korea considered a further acquisition of 12 more units to increase its anti-submarine and naval patrol capability, but this possibility fell apart some time later after the American UH-60 was selected over additional wildcats. In 2021, South Korea started a new upgrade program for the AW159, aimed mainly to improve operational communication and enhance interoperability between the Korean navy and the other allied armed forces. Nowadays, the Eight AW159 are mainly used on the Dokdo-class amphibious assault ship and on the other various Korean destroyers and frigates.

Why it should be in game: It could give to the British tt the only possible helicopter with the SPIKE NLOS atgm and thus it could be a good addition for the tt or as a premium veichle

The Philippines also has the same variant as the ROK’s with it being equipped with Blue Shark Torpedos as well. Great vehicle! Personally, the UK can get it first but when the time comes for a Korean TT, they should have it as part of the main tree similar to the US Merkavas.

+1 for a united Korea TT

A version of the AW159 is being pitched to New Zealand to replace their Super Seasprites. The UK one should be added to the UK tree (they could use a fire and forget weapon system), the Korean one should be reserved for a Korean tree/sub tree.

+1 for the UK tree, and for an ROK tree if it is ever added

No as It Is not used by South Korea.

But it’s used by the UK. Make it for the tech tree we already have in game, not one that might come in the future.

yeah but this suggestion is not for the UK one but for the South Korean one.

I would just like to point out that the Philippine Naval Air Wing seems to equip their Wildcats with the Spike NLOS differently as the radar system is mounted on the side though its yet to be seen if the Wildcats would actually carry the Spikes. Also this is just me trying to keep the topic alive, I would love to see this chopper!
