AGM-65ds are NOT travelling 12 miles

Less than 7 miles out (11km) decent altitude but a slow launch speed, the 65s just fall out of the sky. Aren’t Mavericks supposed to have an operational range of 12miles?

yeah, assuming perfect conditions

which you are not in, not even at 1km altitude, which is not decent altitude

Decent altitude for GRB I meant

yeah but its not a decent altitude for a slow plane to launch a slow missile from

Firing them from an a10 at less than 800m alt is not going to allow them much range.
You should be at least 2k alt for slow planes if you want to fire from 10km out.

There is a bug report in somehwere for AGM-65s not having the correct range, But I cant find it.

I don’t see them doing great when launched from F-15E at way better conditions so imagine A-10.

Bro you shouldn’t even talk with not even being over 1:1 KDR with a t80bvm lol.

I noticed after the initial 3.5 second boost phase, the AGMs suddenly drop from 750mph to 400mph. Are they supposed to really have that much drag?

I did just find this report:

https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/RUUZn9rqeGYA

So probably not.

Might help with range too if they maintained energy better

That’s what I noticed, the energy retention is quite bad, almost unnatural the speed at which they drop from booster phase. It’s almost as if there is too much loft on them, it eats all of the speed away.

The maximum range ive ever gotten out of mavericks launched from the A-10 is 10km but 8km is more realistic
The problem isnt the missile losing too much energy it can still glide for quite awhile The problem is the battery runs out so it self destructs from how slow its going

If you launch a maverick from a fast platform like a F-15 you can pretty easily get it to 16-19km but its still a slow missile that makes it pretty easy to intercept by a SPAA

I think the loft is largely correct. (though Gaijin’s loft code likes to be clunky at times) but I think they have too much drag

Initial speed mach 1.1, lofts, then dies down to 550mph. I thought Mavericks were supposed to retain close to mach1. After 20 seconds, they’re traveling slower than my A10

Assumin they dont have insane drag for no reason which os what happens ingame

You can retain more speed in a plane without engines than the Maverick. It just doesn’t seem right to me.

20 seconds without motors in the Vark speed loss = 100mph
20 seconds after Maverick burn speed loss = 320 mph

You will never squeze out 12 mil range from such alt.

the thing is you kinda should

this is from a source published by hughes/raytheon

Since these might as well be in chinese for me, i will just trust you on the matter.

Even for a fast jet you need at least 4-5km altitude to reach that kind of range
