its showing launch envelopes for maverics (which should be somewhat less than absolute maximum range to ensure kinematic range) with the y axis showing launch altitude and lines for different warhead types launched at mach 0.9 along with shaped charge warhead launched from stationary and 100 knots
in all cases that I have tested in game the maverick does not hit anywhere close to what this chart would suggest
Yeah… Im fairly certain there is another report somewhere I’ve seen. Or at least a source for them. AGM-65s are missing like 10-20% of their max range iirc
20km was not the cap on weapon range, it was the cap on sight stabilization range.
The first thing I did when I unlocked AGM-65Bs on F-4E was do a 22.5km launch against the Tunguska from 6000 meters sub-sonic.
It was hard, but hard is not impossible.
it wasnt a cap on weapon range, it was a cap on designation range so if you went for a shot over 20km your missile would try lock on a spot 20km away from you in mid air
which made it effectively a cap on weapon range
Not even the cap in this case either, within the parameters of the chart you posted, the 13.8 ish NM launch at 18k feet and mach 0.9 has the missile running out of steam about 4 miles to 3.8 miles short of the target.
Such is very easily repeatable in the test drive too, the D has nearly identical flight performance in a launch like this as well which is quite funny given it should have a markedly better range.
You can squeeze more range out if you are well above mach 1, but thats largely irrelevant as this document is subsonic only, and even then, these draggy bricks loose all that extra speed like its going out of style.
I swear too that a few patches ago gaijin said they were going to fix the 65’s drag model, but then come the dev server that statement and the promise just up and vanished, par for the course I guess.
